Following the ongoing #EndPoliceBrutalityinNigeria #EndSARS #EndSWAT protests in Nigeria & around the world, which have been met with deadly force and live ammunition rounds fired at peaceful protesters, the Nigerian community in the Waterloo Region will continue its solidarity protest at Uptown Waterloo Square on Saturday (October 17th) at 3pm. We’re protesting because not ONE Nigerian police officer responsible for the murder and maiming of unarmed peaceful protesters has b...een arrested, nor has any Nigerian police commander resigned/been fired. Instead, the Inspector General of Nigeria Police Force has responded with a lame rebranding attempt, choosing to change the name of the murderous Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) to a new Special Weapons and Tactical (SWAT) unit. We reject this measure as dead on arrival, and will now step up our solidarity protests by strongly urging the Canadian Government (with a petition through our local leaders & regional representatives) to target specific Nigerian police officers (and their families) responsible for overseeing these atrocities, with restrictions/revocations of ALL Canadian visas and permits, including pending and future applications. This is in coordination with petitions in the UK, the USA, and other countries, to deny these officers and their families entry on the grounds of gross violations of human rights of peaceful protesters and for targeting innocent victims indiscriminately with police violence and brutality. In the midst of a pandemic such as COVID 19, the need to wash our hands regularly has become so important. Make it a regular practice to wash your hands with soap and running water or use a hand sanitizer if you do not have access to soap and water. And do not forget to have your face mask on, especially in crowded public spaces, according to the Canadian Health Guidelines. Happy Global Handwashing Day! ... #washyourhands #usefacemasks #globalhandwashingday #handwashingday2020 #covid19 #prevention #nigeriansincanada #nigeriansinwaterloo #publichealthcanada #protectyourself #protectothers #safehands #washvirusesaway

Nigerians in the Region of Waterloo 30.06.2020

The ongoing #ENDSARS movement in Nigeria is a response to a long process of attempted engagements with the Nigerian Government, over the nefarious actions of a notorious group of trigger-happy police officers - Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). When in the course of human events, agents of a democratic government wield power with impunity, with scant regard for the lives of citizens, cutting down young people in their prime, in the name of law enforcement, then that governme...nt must be put on notice. We, the members of Nigerians in Region of Waterloo, stand with our fellow citizens demanding #EndSARSNow on the ground in Nigeria. We will demonstrate this solidarity with our sisters & brothers in Nigeria, here in Waterloo Region, by congregating for a 2-hour protest in downtown Kitchener on Monday (October 12th) at 2:00pm, to amplify their demands, and raise awareness within our local community here in Canada. Join us in this peaceful campaign to #EndSARS in Nigeria. #nigeriansincanada #nigeriansindiaspora #endsars #endsarsbrutality #endsarsbrutalityinnigeria #endsarsbrutality #nigeria #nigeriansinwaterloo #kitchener #cambridge #waterloo
