Happy Thanksgiving to all our American friends!

Here it is the opening week of the fall bear hunt and the cabin is empty and the outpost camp is packed away. It has been a strange year. First having to cancel the spring hunt then having to cancel the fall hunts. I miss the hustle of getting the baits ready and planning where to put stands for each week. I miss getting excited when I'm looking at the trail camera pictures and seeing the bears active on the baits. I miss greeting friends and clients as they arrive for ...their hunting and fishing adventure. I miss hearing the stories of bears and other critters at the sites and seeing videos and pictures. I miss the excitement when a bear is harvested and we track it and bring it back to camp for processing. I miss the shore lunch fish fry's by the lake and the laughs and kidding. I miss sharing Lindsey's blueberry. I am very lucky to have some awesome clients who are anxious to get back to Canada again as soon as possible. I am looking forward to seeing everyone in 2021! As a guide you try and think about all the things that will effect your hunt, a global pandemic wasn't even on my radar. Well now we are all feeling the effects of the Covid 19 emergency measures. There is so much uncertainty and unknown risk so after consulting with my hunters I have cancelled my spring bear hunts. I believe it was the right decision considering everything that is happening. All of the guides I have talked to across Northern Ontario have also cancelled. It is not the message that I wanted to be posting, I would prefer to be giving updates on bear sightings and posting pictures of bears on the baits. Hopefully we will all get through this and get back to enjoying all outdoor activities soon. Stay safe and be healthy.

February 6, 2020. Time to take the snow off of the cabin! This winter hasn't been too bad. We have had a decent amount of snow but no where like the amount we had last year. The temperature has been good, a few extremely cold days here and there but no long stretches of extreme cold. The bears went into winter in good shape from all the food available last fall and I expect that they will come out this spring in excellent shape. I'm looking forward to another great year.
