Who needs a hug or a massage these days? This interview with a variety of touch specialists explores touch deprivation during this time of social distancing. The researcher explains that often sleep and touch deprivation go hand in hand. Touch before bedtime is recommended in order to calm your nervous system. This would include bedtime yoga, rolling on a ball or foam roller or holding one hand over your heart and the other on your belly as you take deep breaths. Hey, if you’re going to lay there awake anyway, you definitely have to time to try these techniques!

I have decided to stop massaging until the Coronavirus crisis has subsided and the social distancing recommendation has been lifted. My apologies to those of my clients who had their hearts set on a massage in the next few weeks. We will have to cancel and reschedule once it is safe to do so. Stay safe and healthy and look out for each other!I have decided to stop massaging until the Coronavirus crisis has subsided and the social distancing recommendation has been lifted. At Back to Nature Wellness Centre we are taking the COVID-19 pandemic very seriously. As healthcare professionals, we are always concerned about the health of our clients, their families and loved ones. We are following all of the recommendations of health officials in Canada and are regularly sanitizing all high touch areas of the clinic with a hospital grade disinfectant. We are asking our clients to cancel their appointments if they are showing any viral symptoms. We will... not charge a cancellation fee during this time. We will also not be working if we are showing any symptoms. Any clients who have been travelling will need to monitor their health for 14 days before coming in for a massage. We are so grateful for your consideration and feel very fortunate to have such wonderful clients. On a personal note, I’d like to add that this is a situation where we all need to work together and consider the bigger picture over and above our personal interests. Keep a cool head and a warm heart. Look for opportunities to help someone who might not have a support network. It will take a village to get through this. https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/topics/Page16944.aspx

Here are some great stretches you can do at home. Daily stretches have amazing benefits. You may not be able to do them all but something is better than nothing!

Here’s some great advice. And I love the picture that goes with it!

Focusing on your breath during a massage, can be a great way to minimize discomfort and allow your attention to be on your body instead of a million other things. Try it next time!

I thought we could all use some flowers today.

Great animation of the respiratory system. Here you can clearly see how deep breathing would effect the digestive system.

This article has everything you ever wanted to know about deep tissue massage, including research information. There is a lot of misinformation about deep tissue massage in the general public. Many people think that deep tissue massage is painful and will leave you sore for a few days afterward. First of all, it doesn’t have to be painful. If the therapist works gradually through the layers of muscles, it is less painful and there is less post massage inflammation. Secondly..., you probably don’t need a full body deep tissue massage. An experienced massage therapist will be able to palpate the soft tissue to find the level of restriction, which may or may not be at the deepest level. This allows for most of the massage to be enjoyable with a few targeted areas of deep work. Massage depth should always be adjusted to the client’s comfort level. https://www.massagemag.com/guide-to-deep-tissue-massage-89/

When you get a massage in June, 10% of the proceeds will be donated to Sick Kids’. If you feel like donating more, be my guest. If you feel like riding to raise money that’s great too. Btw, Sick Kids’ spends very little money on administration, so most of the funds raised go to the kids.

Great instruction on foam rolling. This is a good idea for athletes or anyone with chronic tension.

While holiday cheer is spreading quickly, we would like to take the time to acknowledge those who are struggling right now. Whether you are grieving a loss, str...uggling with depression, or are not close to family, these are some ways you can find some comfort in a difficult time. Alternatively, if you know someone who might need a little extra love this season, please reach out to them. Let them know that it is okay to be sad, and that they are welcome to join your holiday activities just as they are. http://ow.ly/d2Ap30hfvkO

Excellent posture advice. Most of the time we ignore our bodies until we feel pain. Then we blame whatever is hurting and try to get rid of the pain. More often than not, you feel pain because your body is trying to tell you to correct your posture. ... https://www.massagemag.com/11-tips-to-better-posture-11193/

That person who is hard to buy for and doesn’t want any more junk, may love a massage for Christmas. (I know I would!) Now it’s super easy to buy gift certificates online with MassageBook.

If you have problems adjusting to the dark days of winter, massage can help manage some of the symptoms.

Never underestimate the power of touch.

You probably already know this but here’s a reminder. If worse comes to worse, book a massage and I’ll straighten you out again. For those of you using snow blowers for long periods of time, the vibrations can cause tingling and numbness in forearms and hands. Massage can help with that too.

Cate Nightingale RMT 13.10.2019

I’m afraid...I only have one opening left this week on Friday at 5:00. Let me know if you want to be on my cancellation list.
