Heather Stefanson Stop playing with the Livelihood of Manitoba’s children and their families! MOST families need childcare they can afford to go to work or sch...ool. Squeezing out low income families of affordable child care will effect businesses looking for employees, students ability to train for future employment and more families relying on the welfare system to survive. THESE parents are those Heroes you keep thanking - without them, this province would be in turmoil from this pandemic. Stop punishing the hard working families in Manitoba to line the pockets of your rich friends! See more

The Manitoba Governments is proposing amendments to the Child Care Regulation Act and they are pushing these changes through without informing parents and Child...care Centres. These amendments will result in drastic changes to Manitoba's public childcare. There are many different changes, but here is a list of the Top 5 Red Flags about the proposed amendments. 1. The proposed amendments remove the cap on childcare fees meaning that childcare costs for families could double. There are many families who are already having difficulty covering the cost of childcare. 2. The province wants to save money on their annual licensing by making licensing less rigorous. This puts kids at risk. Enhanced ratios, small group sizes, and nurturing trained educators make for high quality early education and care programs. We need to ensure better than a minimum standard of care for our most vulnerable citizens. 3. These amendments will not provide Childcare Centres with what they need most, which is government funding to pay Early Childhood Educators properly and provide quality care. Centres were already struggling to make ends meet and now there are increased costs because of covid-19. With reduced government funding or no increases to government funding, centres will close. 4. Enhanced Nursery Schools are an important part of Manitoba’s Early Learning and Childcare Framework. They are critical for thousands of Manitoba children, giving access to high quality care and education for $5/day. But the Government Operating Grant is on the chopping block. Cutting the Enhanced Operating Grant may result in closure for thousands of families in over 66 Manitoba Childcare Centres! 5. It is already nearly impossible to access a child care space for your child with inclusion support needs due to under funding and with the proposed amendments it will be even more difficult. This will impact children who can’t get their physical, emotional, cognitive and safety needs met without extra support from additional Early Childhood Educators. These kids need a higher ratio of Early Childhood Educators to children and the amendments will make it more difficult to access these kind of supports. CUTS TO CHILDCARE ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE!
