KMHA NEWS UPDATE Sept 15th The City of Kamloops Council voted in favor of opening another arena today. It will take a couple of weeks for the City to get that... ice in and for KMHA to receive our permits. Our intentions are to offer each player a minimum of 2 ice times per week as in previous years, however we have to work through the logistics of it. We are planning on starting Recreation U11 and above on the weekend of Sept 26th and 27th. Please be patient as we try to organize the groups for this over the next week. We will post groups on the KMHA website on Thursday, Sept 24th. All waitlisted players are now being accepted and must have fees paid by etransfer to [email protected] or by logging back into your team snap account and pay using your credit card. U7 and U9 fees are not due until October 15th as stated in previous information. Any KMHA player U11 and above with unpaid fees by Sat, Sept 19th will be cancelled. IMPORTANT information There is a 50 participant limit per arena. Due to this KMHA is not allowing parents in the building during ice times effective Sept 26th. The participants allowed per arena will be players, coaches, managers and safety people. The KMHA Board has decided that the players are the priority and we hope that all parents respect these rules. If we do not adhere to this strict number in the arenas the City will revoke our ice times. This will apply to all KMHA participants, Recreation and Rep included. Once numbers of participants allowed in the building increase, we will definitely open the doors to parents, we are hopeful that this will be soon. If your child is participating on the NHL Arena, you will be able to watch the ice time by logging into the City of Kamloops Arena Webcam. All players must come dressed, other than skates and helmet. If your child is unable to tie their own skates, they will need to have skates and skate guards on when they enter the building. Game play will resume once bench numbers increase, so for now skill sessions will be in place. OMAHA and BC Hockey are working diligently with Via Sport to include the benches in the playing field. Currently the benches are not included in the playing field, which is why there are limitations to the number of participants allowed in the benches. Absolutely NO spitting at any time in the arena. We will require one parent to volunteer to be at the door to check in their group, and then they can be in the arena with the group. There will be only one person permitted and this person will be assigned by KMHA based on the responses we receive back. At the end of the ice time, once all the players, coaches and safety people have left they will then let the next group in and so forth. If you are able to take on this role please email, [email protected]. If after reading this you would like to be considered for a position as a volunteer coach, manager or safety person for a team, please look under the volunteer page on our website for the required qualifications. If at that time you are still interested please contact the [email protected] email. Thank you for your patience as we continue to navigate this season of hockey.

KMHA is in dire need of coaches at the Recreation level. Without coaches we will not be able to proceed with hockey. If you are interested please apply through the KMHA website and someone will be in contact with you.

We have received another update from the City of Kamloops and here is a breakdown of what it says. The arena is opening up dressing rooms, but there are o...ccupancy limits and the numbers are currently set at 9 participants per room, however we will have 2 dressing rooms per group available. NO shower facilities available and we are requiring that players still come dressed other than skates and helmets. Door arrival time will be 10 minutes prior to your ice time. Doors will remain locked in between ice times, and if you leave the building you will not be let back in. This is where we will need parental assistance for each group. In order to get more kids on the ice we have decreased the time between each ice session to 15 minutes. We can do this because we are using large blocks of ice. As we do not have the manpower or the available financial resources to hire someone to man the doors throughout all the ice times, we need your help. More details about this job to come, however we can tell you it will require no extra time on your part, other than you need to attend your child’s ice time. It is also essential in getting your kids on the ice, so if you are willing to assist, please email [email protected] to submit your name. Occupancy limits for each arena is still 50 people, however we can put more than 20 on the ice at one time. KMHA Board will discuss how we will manage these numbers with players vs spectators. Benches are not considered part of the field of play, and therefore we have limited numbers available to be on the bench, and because of this, ice use numbers and bench use numbers do not match up. This essentially means no game play, until this number gets lifted. We do not have a timeline of when this might happen, as it is ViaSport that determines the area of play. Physical distancing must be maintained at all times off the ice. As you are coming into the building, in the dressing rooms, hallways etc you must remain 2 meters apart. The only exception is for the players on the ice. ABSOLUTELY NO SPITTING ANYWHERE IN THE FACILITY OR ON THE ICE. Anyone caught doing so will be removed immediately. Finally, KMHA thanks you for your patience as we try to navigate this difficult situation. We anticipate hearing from the City of Kamloops next week about the potential of any other arenas opening. We will update you as more information comes available. Thank you, KMHA

Rep Tryout lists and groups are now posted on the rotator on the KMHA website. They will be starting August 31st. If you have not participated in the KMHA Summe...r Sessions please familiarize yourself with the KMHA Return to Play Plan Part 1 as we are strictly adhering to those guidelines. Although VIA Sport announced on August 24th they were moving into Phase 3 Progressively Loosened, we are still waiting on the interpretation of what that means. We are also waiting on direction from the City of Kamloops and BC Hockey, as we need to adhere to their requirements as well. We do know that Kamloops City Council approved opening of Valleyview Arena, however this still leaves us short 3 arenas to fulfill our ice requirements. We have no dates anticipating when the other arenas in Kamloops might open. We ask you to BE PATIENT. We can only provide you with the information we receive and when the puzzle pieces do not fit together the challenges are great. Our goal is to get your kids back on the ice playing hockey, but we must all be cooperative and understand the obstacles slowing the process. Once we receive more information we will update you in a timely manner. Thank you for your cooperation. Be kind and be safe!
