The fact is, CECRA is incomplete, and in many respects inaccessible and disempowering for small business commercial tenants. Most notably: 1) All Provinces have... not instituted an across the board MORATORIUM ON EVICTIONS while further details of this plan are decided and rolled-out. Landlords could lock-us-out on May 1st if rent has not been paid. 2) This program is VOLUNTARY for landlords, and hinges on their willingness to participate. 3) The Federal press release for CECRA claims that only MORTGAGED commercial property owners are eligible to apply. While SSB has heard differently, government needs to clarify their position on this immediately to reduce confusion and conflict, and widen the scope of eligibility. 4) The CAP of a minimum 70% loss in revenue again leaves-out many businesses who have been deeply affected by the pandemic economy. The cap should be decreased significantly to avoid throttling in order to be eligible. See more
