If you haven’t seen the NU Lakers Twitter feed today, BIG congrats to our award winners of the 2019 season: MVP: Steph Rigg and Jordan Cascagnette ROY: Steph Rigg and Alex Maycock PRIDE: Jaime Schweyer and Carter Henschel ... Well done!!!!! What a great year it’s been... however, I will REALLY miss saying good bye to those of you who are leaving us this year... Jordan, Megan, Justin, Travis, Steph R!!! I hope our running paths cross again sometime in the near future so we can do our farewells proper. Teagan and Katie... I know I will see lots of you again in the future (ha, I just saw Teagan today, virtually of course)... but I do think special mention here is deserved to acknowledge the great leadership as captains you’ve both shown over the last few years. There are many reasons to love cross country running the outdoors, the exercise, the travel are certainly not the least of these. But above all else, the reason I keep doing this is because of the awesome people I meet along the way. ALL of you are a great bunch of friends, and I will cherish you among the team photos on my office wall for years to come. Take care, and keep on running! GR

The 2019 (ok, late to the party -- 2020) Prediction Run.... Under perfect, mild (for January), running conditions (a day after a deep freeze and a day before a winter storm), the Lakers XC team reunited after the holiday break to take part in the annual Prediction Run team challenge. For those who are new to prediction running, this event is a 5km "race", where the winner is not necessarily the fastest runner, but is the person who runs as close as possible to the finishing t...ime they *predict* before the start of the race. Of course, watches, GPS, and other pacing devices are now allowed. Scroll through the past posts on our page to see the results from past years. This year was one of the narrowest margins to a "perfect" race we've seen in a few years (difference of only 3 seconds between the winning predicted vs actual finishing time). Although it is noted on a few occasions we've witness perfect races (predicted time = actual time). This year also continues our tradition of a bonus prize for best costume. While there are some honourable mentions (there are no repeat costume-award winners allowed), this year that prize went to Mr. Travis Mann, who after many years of trying, finally took home the top costume cheese. Good times were had by all. Already we have may have forgotten those fall season races and training runs, but the memory of running a 5k in a morph-suit, a dog-suit, or, believe it or not, with downhill skis, will not slowly fade. The 2019-ish Lakers Prediction Run Results: 1. Emily 'Iron Gut' Drake 20:03 (+3s) 2. Steph 'New Girl' Rigg 23:49 (-6s) 3. Tommy 'Emergency Room' Steele 19:30 (-12s) 4. Justin 'Twin Powers' Leale 21:28 (-33s) 5. Jaime 'Not Jamie' Schweyer 22:24 (-38s) 6. Travis 'Shoe Destroyer' Mann 23:25 (+55s) 7. Carter 'The Rookie' Henschel 20:31 (-59s) 8. Alex 'Goes Faster on Snow' Maycock 20:00 (+1:00) 8. Donna Mae 'Mighty Mouse' Robins 24:00 (+1:00) 10. Steph 'Pro Bass' Knowles 26:03 (+1:01) 11. Emily 'Hermione Granger' Gibson 25:59 (+1:29) 12. Teagan 'Alberto Tomba' Retty 29:53 (+1:36) 13. Katie 'Beast Mode' Gibson 25:58 (+1:43) 14. Megan 'The Law' Cruickshank 28:40 (+2:40) Other notable race statistics: For the 6th year in a row, the women (1,2,5,8,10 = 26 points) bested the men (3,4,6,7,8 = 28 points) in the team competition. Iron Gut Drake's 20:03 performance was the fastest female athlete finish in the prediction run history, but fell shy of Coach Mighty Mouse's course record 19:20. ER Steele comfortably finished in 19:30, but did not aim to challenge the Laker record of 17:48 (Jordan 'Mr. C' Cascagnette) nor the course record set by Head Coach (when he ran more than 2 months a year) of 17:34. Great seeing you all again -- All the Best for 2020!
