We are in The Wilmot Post!!! We were already so proud to be part of this community, but seeing it in INK really makes us smile. There is something deeply comforting and traditional about a weekly paper focusing on community happenings, almost as traditional and comforting as local honey ... Check out this article and the other exciting things going on in The Wilmot Post, wherever you grab your physical newspapers. Once you've read your copies they also make for super unique wrapping paper for gifts or for packing gifts to be mailed to family that may be far away this year... #supportlocal #smallbusiness #localbeekeeper #localbusiness #honey #oldfashioned See more

WE HAVE NEW DESIGNS!! We have loads of @abeillewraps in store right now! Beeswax wraps are an aesthetically pleasing way to replace SO MUCH waste in your kitchen. We have found... possibly 1000... uses for these. What are some of the unique ways you have been using yours? I've really enjoyed using the smallest wrap to replace the lid on any wonky jar I've found while thrifting! ... Most of my own wraps live their lives protecting dry goods in my pantry or cheese in my fridge... they do make the occasional outing with some leftovers or my lunch. Beeswax wraps can last for years and years, so make sure you check out @abeillewraps here on ig for tricks on keeping them super fresh! These sets of 4 include: 1- 6" x 6" 1- 8" x 8" 1- 10" x 10" 1- 12" x 12" So you'll always have just what you're looking for! These wraps are made with Organic Cotton and a very familiar beeswax #supportlocal #smallbusiness #localbeekeeper #localbusiness #beeswaxwraps #abeille #beekeeping #apiary #giftideas

Hows your immune system doing? Have you checked in with her lately? She probably wants a steamy golden latte that's bursting with flavour and the brightness of local honey. Maybe that's just mine. As soon as it gets cold I really find myself gravitating towards warm flavors, spicy drinks and truly anything mustard yellow. This honey is all of those things and probably a couple more. ... Our flavoured honeys are all made with organic spices and ingredients and we source them as locally as we can. Or through small businesses like ours whenever possible. Our store is currently only available to host one guest at a time, so it's a great opportunity to pick our brains about how each of these honeys is made....Or if you've ever had nosey questions about the hamlet of Luxemburg. Dont forget you can always shop the links in our bio and get any of our products contactless through local pickup or shipped right to you! #smallbusiness #localbusiness #supportlocal #healthfood #localbeekeeper #beekeeping #honey #turmeric #turmericbenefits #superfoods #superhoney See more

Absolutely honoured to have @ladygreenbeeswax products here for the holidays... You have to see these candles to believe them. The dye used in these breathtaking black pillars is completely nontoxic (and made of vegetables) so you're still getting nothing but the wonderful benefits of burning beeswax. ... If you aren't aware of the benefits of beeswax yet, please take a lil peek over at @ladygreenbeeswax she will set you straight. Come in tomorrow and check these out for yourself along with the rest of our holiday goods! This includes the beeswax tree that you definitely noticed in the first picture. Along with handmade tree ornaments, seasonal beeswax wraps, locally made soaps and more! See more

INTRODUCING... JOE This is long overdue, but today seems as good as any to celebrate A BRAND NEW BEEKEEPER. Joe has been part of the NVA team since the spring and we are better for it. ... Joe has been counting every single bee sting since his first day here. Its 527. And hes still never missed a day Joe is a charismatic addition to any team and always has something to talk about. If you see him around the honey house dont be afraid to say hi! He's become a wealth of knowledge about bees and beekeeping (thanks Mike) so also dont be afraid to ask your bee questions! #smallbusiness #localbeekeeper #beekeeping #localbusiness #westanjoe #legend #smalltowncharm #smalltownlife #apiary

Two years ago Mike took the opportunity to go half way around the world to Tasmania where he worked with the @Tasmanian Honey Company. Now only the fond memories remain for us and a connection to a place we hope to visit again some day. Take some time to read through this well written article, it brings Tasmania so much closer alone through the words

A beekeepers view these days and more ... We love these hardworking girls even on their grouchy days the first 2 images just show you how much extra room space the bees make for honey if their frames are full. The last photo shows a hive bearding on a hot day trying to keep cool. (Thanks beekeeper Joe for the photos!!) See more

Summer nights are for bringing in the crops.... In this case moving barrels of fresh honey into storage to hopefully last us until next years fresh crop comes in. Excitement and adrenaline outweigh the tiredness... To the far left you can see (slightly blurred) Mike moving another barrel to storage. . . . #2020harvest #freshhoney #lifeofabeekeeper See more

A virgin queen bee When it's hot out a fully populated hive will sometime swarm. The hive will raise swarm cells (queen cells) while the old queen takes off with a large part of the hive population to find a new home elsewhere. Once the first cell hatches, the queen will go around destroying all other unhatched queens and claim her throne.... A virgin queen needs to go on her mating flight before she can fulfill her duties. A queen usually mates with 5 to 18 drones (Male bees) who die after that. Our beekeepers found this hive with 10 swarm cells (queen cells) hatching. They collected the queens/cells to put each into it's own new hive and left one of them in that hove to take the throne. Isn't she beautiful!! See more

Our observation hive is open again for the season for self guided tours. Come check it out and see what these busy girls have been up to It's a good honey season so far with this heat

This hot weather calls for lots of lemonade!!! Don't you think? I make this recipe in large batches so it (hopefully) lasts Mike for the week while he is working in the beeyards in this hot weather. This recipe is a bit different; it has lots of lemonbalm, mint and stinging nettle leaves from the garden, a little salt as electrolytes, wildflower honey, and freshly squeezed lemon juice. ... I make sure when I add the honey and lemon juice the tea temperature is only lukewarm so all the good stuff in the honey and vitamins in the lemon juice are not compromised by the heat. Cheers!

This morning Finnian and I took a little bike ride onto my family's farm to check on the progress of the Linden/Basswood trees.... they are just starting to bloom with lots of buzzy bees!!! We are hopeful that in a couple weeks we might have some basswood honey again!! This is a honey we are excited to get every few years. Some beekeepers say every 5 to 7 years there is a strong basswood flow.

Nith Valley Apiaries 12.05.2020

We will be closed Wednesday and open as usual for the remainder of the week.

This honey will be extracted in a couple days and available in the store shortly thereafter. We will keep you posted Mike is showing Finnian how the honey comes in... Finnian has great interest in what Mike does and always needs to be around.... beekeeper/farmer in the making
