Hello North Kootenay Lake community! We have a little video and message we wanted to share with you. It’s almost the end of volunteer month, so first, on behalf of community services, I’d like to say thank you to all of the volunteers in this area who give so much. Volunteers are the lifeblood of a health community like the north Kootenay lake as they not only fill the roles of our fire department and search and rescue, but also the non profits. These organizations that are w...orking to provide solutions for some of our communities great challenges and make day to day life better for people; they can’t exist without volunteers. North Kootenay Lake Community Services is one of these orgs, and it's in need of a couple more people from the community to offer a few hours a month as board members. Our community services organization provides supportive programming for young families, children, seniors, youth. On top of this, NKLCSS also provides: safe housing for those at risk to domestic violence; free to access counselling; and food security for those in need. Without community members volunteering for the board, it could not exist. Please contact us if you’d like to learn more Below is a video project Neil Johnson was asked to be part of to share why he volunteers for NKLCSS. https://vimeo.com/519666942/b0ecc4fca4

As the end of 2020 approaches, and the days get shorter, we at North Kootenay Lake Community Services are thinking of the challenges that winter brings to those most in need of support, especially in the context of the global pandemic. We are now launching our annual fundraising activities in support of the Food Hub and Seniors Support program. These are two of our programs that do not receive ongoing government funding. Your generous contributions will help us:... - Distribute food to those in need, through our Food Cupboards based in Kaslo, and now also in Meadow Creek (just for the winter!). - Stay connected with seniors in our community and ensure we help them access the supports they need - Continue to respond to the emerging needs that arise in our community, when you donate to the ‘General Support’fund You can support your community by: - Donating anytime at www.nklcss.org by clicking on the Donate Now button. - Setting up a recurring monthly donation from your Kootenay Savings Credit Union account or by making us a Payee in the Bill Payment Section. Please contact our office to get your donor number. - Making a cheque out to NKLCSS and mail to NKLCSS, Box 546, Kaslo - Donating outside Front Street Market December 5th 18th when JV Humphries students run a Christmas Fundraiser for the Food Cupboard. - Donating on Food Bank BC’s website www.foodbanksbc.com, or on the CBC Food Bank Day, Friday December 4th. - Adding NKLCSS to your will as a beneficiary. Contact the office at 250-353-7691 for more information or see our website www.nklcss.org to learn more about our programs. Donate by Dec. 31st in order to receive a 2020 tax receipt, (a receipt will be issued for all gifts over $20). From all of us at North Kootenay Lake Community Services Society, stay well and have a happy and safe holiday season. Thank You, Joanna Temple Board Chair On behalf of the Board and Staff of North Kootenay Lake Community Services Society

Smoky weather keeping you inside? If you need processing tools to help you put up all that garden food or things from the farmer's market, keep in mind that the Kaslo Food Hub has an excellent Culinary Tool Library. Call us at 353-7120 to rent anything from dehydrators, juicers, meat grinders, apple press, grain grinders, seed cleaning screens, and so much more.
The Kaslo Food Hub has been invited to accept donations of food items and cash donations at tomorrow's Household Hazardous Waste Roundup. If you are bringing your waste products down to Vimy Park, please consider bringing a food item or making a donation to our North Kootenay Lake Food Cupboard. We'll be set up ready to receive goods you pass us from your car window. Thank you!
Just 3 markets left in the season. Great time to stock up on your local soaps, lotions and other unique market goods. Not to mention lots of local produce and foods available for all your canning and food processing needs. It's going to be a lovely day tomorrow, perfect for walking around the market. See you there!
New Vendors at the market this weekend: - Louis Bockner Photography has his popular "Portrait Booth". Pose for a picture of you and your friends/family and get it printed right there. Don't miss this one! - Shirley and James Morris with carrots, eggs and more - Sess Sakamoto - Sharmaine Gray with upcycled hats, jewelry and more.... Plus our many great all-season vendors with flowers, seasonal veggies, baked goods, soap, meat and more!
At the Kaslo Saturday Market tomorrow you'll find: overflowing tables of food, smiles from vendors and neighbours, music wafting through the air from across the street, and three non-profits sharing info about the important work they do. That's Kootenay Co-op Radio, BC Responsible Gambling and last but not least Kaslo's own North Kootenay Lake Community Services (NKLCSS). NKLCSS, who provide so many important services in our community, will have the opportunity for you to sign up for a membership. It's a great way to support the work we do. Come talk to board member Monica Davie who will be there to let you know about our important work. You can also get info about our upcoming virtual AGM on September 14th where keynote speaker Barb Cyr will talk about our Wela'lin Indigenous Healing Program.
Our AGM is on September 14. Click link to get more info.
Do you have fruit trees and need help with harvesting? The Kaslo Food Hub's "Feeding Familie's Not Bears" program helps connect fruit tree owners with excess fruit to volunteer harvesters who are looking for fruit. Give us a call and we can help make the connection.
Lost and found at the Kaslo Saturday Market this weekend: *silver ring *Envelope that was left for "Meghan" to pickup If either of these are yours call our office at 250-353-7691 to make arrangements to pick up.
It is high season for local food these days. Our area farmers are bringing in big harvests, and you can find a lot of it at tomorrow's Kaslo Saturday Market. Cabbage, spuds, carrots, garlic, greens, eggs, beef, pork, and more. Plus find a wide range of local artisan work including this year's first appearance by Grasshopper Lane Artworks mother-daughter team Yvonne Boyd and Andrea Lake. That's Andrea's pottery you see in the picture. See you at the market!
Kaslo Saturday Market has a wide variety of vendors of all sorts tomorrow. Find all the seasonal produce you could wish for from our local farmers, plus some interesting artisans to boot. Did you see the home-made solar lamps from repurposed glassware last week? The Humphries from Balfour are the ingenious people who made those, and they sold out. They're back with more - come check them out.
