The Newfoundland Emporium 02.07.2021

The awarding of the April giveaway had to be delayed because even we had no idea how many we had and we had to count them ourselves! The 1st place winner, with a guess of 6700, is Donna Power, and while not very close to the actual number, she was close enough to win! We also have a 2nd place winner, Jackie Murphy and 3rd place winner, Kim Youden, who have both won a 1-hour Paddle Board rental for 2 (includes a mini lesson) with a value of $50 each from the Newfoundland Adven...ture Company! Congratulations to our winners! Stay tuned tomorrow for our next contest!

Listen to Dick Nolan, sing about his hometown - Corner Brook. Dick was the first Newfoundlander to go to Nashville, and make it. The Newfoundland Emporium has over 2000 records (vinyl), CDs, cassettes, and we even have "8 Track" - of local / Newfoundland and Labrador musicians. Good chance that we have copy of Dick Nolan's music. Thnx for shopping local.

Dave LeDrew, Happy Birthday and love...to the captain of the Newfoundland Emporium. Keep living life large, and dancing. You are inspiration to the world. ps: try to take a few days off work: only 5 days a week - at your store !! And all next summer, one day a week...and fish, pick berries, and chill on beaches of Burgeo. When the pandemic gets under control on mainland, get your daughters, 9 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren...to come visit, and spoil you in person.

Polar Bear swim done. So grateful to have my legend parents, family and friends there. Our dad, Dave LeDrew, was born in St.John's, 1935; and our super mom,... Betty Lou Ledrew, born in St.John's, 1938. They are still going strong. Betty Lou takes care of all of her sons - Jonathan Ledrew (born in Quebec), Frank, (born in Germany), and me (born in Alberta); her 9 grandchildren; 3 grandkids; our father; and their big farm house on golf course. Her daughters - Lisa LeDrew Rennie (born in France) and Susan LeDrew (born in Corner Brook) take care of themselves...but incredibly spoil our parents, children, grandchildren, and their 3 brothers rotten !! Betty Lou was a nurse, going back to school at 40, with 5 school age kids...still at home !! She is a super star mom, and was an amazing ballet dancer / instructor too . And she saw Elvis Presley...at the Mapple Leaf Gardens, Toronto - at Elvis's only Canadian concert, in 1956 !! And Betty Lou...still walks twice/day...with her three yr old, 140 Newfoundland pup!, and does chair yoga twice a week - via Zoom with the excellent kind Tina Coleman Yoga team & studio. She plans to snowshoe, xc ski and swim this winter :) Our father, Dave LeDrew still runs his Newfoundland store, (since 1989) - 7 days a week, the Newfoundland Emporium, in Corner Brook. The World's Biggest Newfoundland store!! The Newfoundland Emporium. He has done many many jobs, from Canadian Air Force - with posts in England, France, Germany, Quebec & Alberta; opened Corner Brook's first Electronic shop on Broadway, in ~1970; sold '76 Olympic Lottery tickets all over Newfoundland - delering by car. (He would drive to St. John's and back...in one day!); managed Marble Mountain Ski Club back in the 80s. Their daily and yearly ski visit records...still stands today. Helped that Marble stayed open til there was grass showing on hill, and run by 100s of volunteers. Dad flew his father's planes (Frank LeDrew had 7), all over Newfoundland, flying from one of western Newfoundland's first airstrip (built by his father too)...in Pasadena. Dad would often take his future wife, Betty Lou...on adventures flying. They started dating when mom was 13!. And dad once landed on Blomidon Golf course...during his sisters' wedding (Shirley & Fred Sweetland), circa 1954...with streamers on plane; and then dropped off his 16 year old girlfriend, Betty Lou !! Chris Fudge Jane Bayne Nancy Day Vicki Drover Ann Moore, Barry via Janice Sweetland, Rob via Judy Sweetland Dad...also hosted CFCB's open line radio show in the 90s. And thankfully, he did all my PR / Sponsorship - back in the 80s and 90s...when I raced Triathlons around the world. He is my hero !! And our parents...for past 25 years - have been taking our Newfoundland dogs - down to meet cruise ships...arriving in Corner Brook, and for special events...like arrival of the Mathew ship...for Newfoundland's 500th anniversary in 1997. Todays New Years day swim...was at Pasadena Beach. We we are using my grandmother's whisky container. Jeanne Parsons (my moms mom)...used it when she travelled the world in 1970s to 80s. And used it on her climbs of Killaminjaro; and Machu Picchu (she was 70 yrs old then!). Doing it again next year, but will have a sauna built first Big thank you for all your love and New Year's wishes. Sending you, family, friends, the world...tons of light and love from Newfoundland PS: Merci beaucoup...to my amazing cold weather team: Andrew Middleton, EJ Smith, Betsy Nicholson, brother Frank ( Danse Avec Les Makoyi ), aunts and uncles (Butch & Joan LeDrew) / Deborah Francis LeDrew...and of course to my cool parents. They took all photos, helped keep me warm and motivated to actually do it. Especially since there was a 40 km/hr wind, and windchill was - 15C. Blessed.

This pandemic has destroyed his b...usiness as he relies solely on tourism from cruise ships ... he’s a great character with a sharp wit and good for a chat, plus he will ship anything absolutely ANYWHERE ... so to all you misplaced Newfoundlanders out there, you need socks Call 1 709 634-9376, ask for Dave.
