Thanks to Joseph A Pennell for setting up this moose hunt for myself and Mike Coish! We’ll be doing a non-profit hunt for the Salvation Army’s Wiseman Centre , and if all goes as planned we’ll be helping feed some people in need over the months ahead!! Wish us luck!

As always good quality deep penetrating slugs, such as Brenneke which may be found at Complete Gun Repairs, is a must... https://www.fieldandstream.com//how-to-ready-pump-action/

Received confirmation today, HHHH Inc. will be moose hunting Terra Nova National Park this season for the Salvation Army Wiseman Center with professional guides... as volunteer designated hunters. This will feed the men at that shelter and also serve as proof of concept, ensuring our plans for the future food bank donation program will be ready and capable once the legislative changes are made and the Community Food Sharing Association is ready to proceed. We are hard at work helping the hungry! Happy hunting Mitch Head and Mike Coish, fingers crossed for a successful hunt! See more

Was out yesterday with my dad moose hunting in our go to spot and on the way out we seen a trio of young fellas moose hunting with an old 12 gauge "goose gun". Now there's not a thing wrong with that, although to be fair its a bit of a handicap. You can reduce that disadvantage though by using a good quality slug. I seen these http://www.rioammo.com//p/buck__slugs/royal_brenneke_slug# at Complete Gun Repairs the other day and did a little research after. "The Brenneke slug... was developed by the German gun and ammunition designer Wilhelm Brenneke (18651951) in 1898. The original Brenneke slug is a solid lead slug with ribs cast onto the outside, much like a rifled Foster slug. There is a plastic, felt or cellulose fiber wad attached to the base that remains attached after firing. This wad serves both as a gas seal and as a form of drag stabilization. The "ribs" are used to swage through any choked bore from improved cylinder to full." Seeing that young fella with his goose gun reminded me again of these slugs and I figure they would be a damn fine thing to have on ya during a duck/goose hunt if ya happened to see a moose, or bear, or if ya just happen to be one of the many who moose hunt with yer grandfather's old gun. Please folks remember that range is key when using slugs on big game, these heavy big slugs of lead slow and drop fast; shots past 50 yards aren't advisable and even at 50 yards a typical slug can drop quite a bit (maybe even 6 inches deviation). In Germany there is actually a standard for this, the Langenhagen standard; "in 1990 under the sponsorship of Brenneke, the Langenhagen standard was created. Essentially it means that for hunting, the deviation of the shotgun slug must not on a distance of 50 metres (55 yd) exceed a circle with 10 centimetres (3.9 in) diameter." Basically this means a shotgun slug can't drop more than 4" (2" from center) at 55 yards by this standard, and the Bernneke slug meets that standard, that's pretty damn good! I'll post a video review in the comments below. I think I'll get a box for myself. See more
