Northern Lights Fly Fishers 31.12.2020

It has been a long time since Hasse Lake held any game fish. This spring marked the first time the lake was stocked with Rainbow and Tiger Trout. The lake is no...t deep, therefore an additional step was taken to ensure fish would survive Alberta's long winters, which means an aeration system. The Alberta Conservation Association took the lead and after many months of planning and construction, Hasse Lake is ready to bubble up. In this video, we look at how all of this came together. 2020 Project status updates 1) Conserving and Restoring Arctic Grayling in the Upper Pembina River Watershed Habitat Restoration Planning Test angling in conjunction with AEP staff was conducted during the week of August 10 to 15. The Upper Pembina has been closed to angling for 5 years, and this test angling will help determine the effectiveness of the closure. If you’ve ever wanted to own a top quality bamboo fly rod the Northern Lights Chapter of Trout Unlimited Canada is raffling one off. It’s a 7’6 3-4 weight cane rod with two tips, built on a Payne 98 taper, retails at $1350, built and donated by AO member and internationally known rod maker, Don Andersen, http://bamboorods.ca/ Proceeds help support the Chapter projects for this year:... * Temperature logging, installation of trail cameras and videography in the upper Pembina River to help with the reestablishment of a viable Arctic grayling population; * Assisting ACA with aerating and re-establishing Hasse Lake in Parkland County as a trout fishery; * Riparian protection with angler access points along 6km of Dogpound Creek, a popular brown trout fishery near Cremona; * Replacing damaged educational and Alberta Angler Walk of Fame signage at Muir Lake, and * Continuing public fishing education and kids fly tying sessions at schools, youth groups, Uncles at Large etc. as soon as health regulations permit. Tickets are $5 each, or 5 for $20 and can be purchased online at https://northern-lights-tuc.square.site//cane-rod-raffle/8 . Northern Lights will mail the tickets to you.
