ROCK GIRLS RECRUITING WINTER TRAINING The Rock Girls Rugby program’s Winter training has started and is operating under its Covid-19 Return to Play plan. Tr...aining may differ from previous years in order to continue to train safely and within guidelines. However, recruiting young athletes is ongoing and we are actively seeking to add 20-players to our teams at the under 16 and under 18 levels. Winter training is every Saturday from 3:45-5:45 pm at the PowerPlex in St. John’s. Anyone interested please complete the online player information form and submit it. Further information will then be sent directly. https://forms.gle/wRs7kufJLMudW3tL6 The Winter program will focus on strong fundamentals for rugby with an emphasis on teamwork and fun. Rugby is a team sport that welcomes players of various sizes and with various abilities and skills. We will focus our training on running and passing at pace, catching, contact, creating space in attack, and alignment in defense. As well training will include providing knowledge of various positional play and skills and working through team tactics and strategy. No Rugby experience necessary just a willingness to meet new friends, learn and/or improve your skills and have a little fun in the process.

The NLRU are making changes to our return to play protocol. This is following the guidelines set out by public health. The NLRU are asking members who have been outside of the province recently to not attend rugby sessions until 14 days have passed since their return to NL. Our clubs and programs have adjusted their prescreening procedures to accomodate the new restrictions brought into effect today with the Atlantic bubble.... We continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation very closely to ensure the safety and well being of our members.

Members of Canada's Men's Rugby Team laid a wreath on behalf of Rugby Canada at the Langford cenotaph last night. Joining them was team mascot, Captain Greene, ...who is much more than a stuffed toy to the Canadian squad. Named in honour of Captain Trevor Greene, the mascot is a poignant reminder of a rugby-loving veteran's remarkable tale of survival.
