BUILD CHILDREN'S EVERYDAY VOCABULARY Build children's vocabulary by using specific words to name objects and actions, by describing things, by telling them wher...e things are or talking about how we do things. Emphasize unfamiliar words and explain their meaning by relating them to something the children already know. Try pairing a gesture with the explanation to show the word's meaning, and repeat the new word in many different situations. Children with larger vocabularies are better equipped to learn to read and understand the meaning of what they read. Language and literacy tip! ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO PREDICT Being able to predict what will happen next is a major part of critical thinking, and it's associated... with good reading comprehension and academic success. Encourage your child to predict by brainstorming different possibilities, weighing the probability of different options and describing the reasons behind his or her prediction. Want more tips? Some great suggestions for helping your toddler say those early developing sounds P, B, and M! I love using bubbles to help with early sounds (bubble, pop, more).
A great read for those with little little ones
Joint attention, imitation, and play skills are critical in developing communication skills. Early intervention should focus on these essential skills for children with autism.
"If a child is playing on a device, use it with them- participate and ask questions to make it an interactive activity."
