Do I think orthotics for everyone? No, I don’t believe that custom foot orthotics are for everyone. They can help a wide range of people, from those with pain or discomfort in the foot to more severe problems like diabetic ulcers. Intrinsic factors like foot mechanics or foot structure can also indicate that someone may benefit from foot orthotics. These, as well as extrinsic factors like having a high physical demand on your body, can lead someone to the use of foot orthoti...cs. For example, if you spend a lot of time on your feet or if you are seeking to improve performance in your chosen physical activities. A detailed assessment is the first step to seeing if foot orthotics are right for you. Does anyone you know wear orthotics? Why do they wear them?

Do you have pain in your heel or arches with those first few steps in the morning? This is the classic symptom associated with Plantar Fasciitis/Fasciosis (PF). The plantar fascia is a thick fibrous band of connective tissue that originates at the heel bone and inserts at joints at the ball of the foot, spanning the majority of the bottom of your foot. PF is a degenerative syndrome resulting from repeated microtrauma typically at the origin of the plantar fascia - the heel. T...reatment can often include the use of foot orthotics to reduce strain on the plantar fascia through stabilization of the medial longitudinal arch. It can also include education on proper footwear choices, foot strengthening exercises, lower leg and plantar fascia stretching routines and a variety of other treatments. There is no single treatment that works for everyone. If you've had PF - what has worked for you?

It's important to understand where and how your orthotics are being made. Complete transparency when it comes to the "behind the scenes" aspects of dispensing custom foot orthotics is vital in building trust between patient and practitioner. That's why I'm going to do my best to let you in on what happens in the time after the scans are taken and before you receive your orthotics. In my opinion, the technology that goes into the fabrication of your devices is quite impressive... and I'd like to share it with you. I also feel that I am an appropriate person to do so, as the lab that facilitates the mobile nature of Nomad's services, is where I started my career in the field of pedorthics. In the time that I spent with @orthogeniclab, I worked alongside some incredibly talented clinicians and technicians to fabricate orthotics for people across Canada. I gained a lot of respect for the craftsmanship of orthotics, as well as the ability to balance technology as a part of that process. I learned a ton and became extremely familiar with all the ins and outs of the orthotics I dispense (and wear) today. This is a quick clip of the fabrication process. If you're interested in an inside look at the lab, click the link in my bio for a tour and brief overview of the manufacturing process.

There are many names applied to a wide variety of in-shoe devices: orthotics, insoles, inserts, arch supports and more. They may seem like they are all the same but in reality they are very different. . Custom Foot Othotics are prescription medical devices worn inside your footwear that are designed to address your specific issue(s), biomechanics and movement goals. They work with your feet much like glasses work on your eyes - they reduce stress and strain on your body by mi...nimizing excessive movements that may be causing biomechanical inefficiencies and soft tissue strain. Custom orthotics fit into your shoes as comfortably as an insole, but with a design synthesized from all the information gathered in the history taking, biomechanical analysis and gait assessment. . Get in touch today if you think you may benefit from a virtual orthotic and footwear assessment. There is absolutely no obligation to purchase a pair of orthotics after an assessment. The intention is to discuss all the different factors that will determine if you may benefit from custom foot orthotics and present alternatives if they are not (eg. footwear education, compression stockings, stretching/strengthening exercises and/or referrals to other professionals). Feel free to DM me with any questions you may have. See more
