Well it’s finally done and installed. The BigHouse bench that I assisted @salish_artist_dylan_thomas with is nw available for use by any and all arses looking for a temporary parking spot. You can find it near the new Esquimalt sewage treatment plant.

Success! The flip went smooth as glass. #don’tfup

Getting everything ready for the flip. Just waiting on another pair of hands to be safe.

Hull exterior paint and varnish done! Now to flip this back over without screwing it all up.

Banjo plates fresh from the acid bath. I’m liking how my angry goat worked out.

Final coat on the 2.4mR bottom. We decided to go with a semi-gloss brush finish for a more traditional look.

Time to slam a few coats of epoxy on the deck.

The coaming is now complete and epoxy encapsulation comes next.

Coaming is done!

Building up the coaming lip with little sawn futtocks.

International 2.4mR Project - several attempts at bending a lip onto the coaming failed. Too skinny a stick that looses its heat before I can get it in place. This thing has to be about 13' long to wrap around the coaming. I had to go to the steam in place with a bag trick. Pumping the steam in from one end wouldn't work. Too long a distance from where I needed the steam. I had to pump it in mid way. We got it in the end but trying to clamp a thin piece of wood with a bag in ...the way is a pain. It gets certain jobs done but boil in the bag is not the easiest solution to all steaming needs. Worked in this case after a fashion though. #international24mr #coldmoulding #coldmolding #modernboatconstruction #woodenboat #woodepoxyboat #westsystemepoxy See more

Longhouse bench project - @salish_artist_dylan_thomas is just about to start digging into the back panel of the. He also switched from a smaller carved inset to a full face relief carving. This is going to look awesome! Dude needs a way bigger studio though.

Banjo building Sunday - gang cutting a bunch of tailpieces for a few travel banjos I have on the go. One of these earmarked for my banjo builder friend @alexnemet who lives out on the wrong coast.

Next layer of coaming is made up of short vertical staves. Dog clips to the rescue to make up for a lack of clamps believe or not.

Bring on the honey.

Straight blade oar project - Here we are oiled and ready for varnish and leathers. Seems like just two simple sticks but this represents about ten hours steady work, all by edge tools and had sanding. #oars #customoars... #oarmaking #rowing See more

Straight blade oar project - A couple new holding devices I never had on hand before that worked extremely well. One is my luthiers vice which I swear to god can hold out the whole oar suspended from and extreme end no problem. The other is a set of shooting rest sandbags. #oars #customoars... #oarmaking #rowing See more

Straight blade oar project - to give the blades a better chance of long term survival I add a black locust spline. I do fully capped blade end on fancier sets but these are going to be a more workaday pair. I cut the slot using a router fitted with a fly cutter while the blade end is still squared off. #oars #customoars... #oarmaking #rowing See more
