No One Is Illegal 23.11.2020

The Chronicle Herald interviewed us about our Migrant Solidarity Fund! Instead of a charity approach, mutual aid means instead of waiting for governments to act, we’re going to support and take care of each other as a community outside of those systems that are not responding proportionately to the crises that we’re facing, said NOII member Tina Oh. PLEASE HELP US SHARE THE WORD!!! We know that art is an indispensable tool and practice to envision anti-racist futures and worlds we want to create. This is why NOII-Hfx is initiating and facilitating a community-art project. We believe collective, collaborative, cooperative, community-based art-making will help to foster relationships while bringing in new allies into our movement for migrant justice. ... -- We are looking to collaborate with an artist that has skills in drawing or illustrating non-detailed portraits, specifically non-identifiable group-portraits. We are prioritizing and encouraging BIPOC applicants, as well as those without formal institutional art-training. We can offer a $150 honoraria. Further instructions, description of the project as well as the artist application is located here: http://bit.ly/MigrantJusticeArtHfx

As a racialized and temporary labour force, migrant workers routinely endure working and living conditions simply not permissible for other workers: Shavan - a father of three from Jamaica - has been coming to Nova Scotia as a migrant farm worker for eight years. This past year, his bunkhouse was overrun with large rats. He says, I know that’s not part of Canada’s standards. Even during the heatwave over the summer, Shavan and other migrant workers were working 10-hour ...days in the blistering sun for minimum wage. #statusforall #NSpoli #TFWP https://www.thechronicleherald.ca//commentary-migrant-wor/
