Nordic Structures 21.11.2020

A new day brings a new concept to light at Michigan State University. The first mass timber elements for the new STEM Buildings are going vertical; very exciting for Nordic Structures to help bring this carbon negative, sustainable project to the great state of Michigan.

Timely video post from our friends at the Waterman Residence Hall at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), in Providence. Nordic collaborated with NAADA, Odeh Engineers, and Shawmut to help realize this steel/timber hybrid structure. The video shows well, but the words spoken tell the underlying story- listen in to hear the GC talk about real costs and schedule impact.

Demand for an amenity shouldn't come at the cost of efficiency. Good article reviewing the energy cost vs. the social benefit of integrating balconies into modern high rise construction.

Liez au site du chantier: https://www.devisubox.com/dv/dv.php5 We appear to be either too modest or too quiet to get any press. Nordic Structures recently topped out at 41 meters on a 13 story residential project in Quebec City. Origine is the first building of its kind at this height to be constructed exclusively (core and shell) of mass timber. This structure is actually the standard bearer for tall wood structures in North America as it utilizes CLT in the exterior walls, the shearwall components, and the elevator and stair shafts-unique for its size and design. Structures like this will help advance the Paris Accord and the drive for Carbon negative construction by 2030. Link to the jobsite here: https://www.devisubox.com/dv/dv.php5
