It is with great sadness that we pay tribute to Desmond Jacob, who passed away last weekend. Desmond worked as a Field Assistant at Noront and was known as a quiet yet strong leader, a patient mentor and someone who was kind and always willing to help others. A good example of Desmond's quiet leadership was shared today by a co-worker... ... One cold winter day in the field, a new employee was struggling to put his chainsaw back together. While the team moved on to the next location, Desmond stayed back to help him out and stuck by him for the rest of the day to provide guidance and safety training where he could. That is just one of the reasons that everyone at site loved and appreciated Desmond. Something that made his dad, long-time Noront Community Relations Manager Scott Jacob, very proud. Our condolences go out to Scott, Desmond's family and his friends. We will miss his warm smile and love of the Toronto Maple Leafs and remember his kind and generous spirit.

Workplace safety is always important, but these days it has taken on new meaning. When our crew headed back to Esker Site in August they added several new precautions to the usual safety measures. This meant regularly sanitizing common touch points, social distancing, wearing masks when needed and conducting enhanced orientations and toolbox meetings to ensure all work was conducted in the safest way possible way.... Our health and safety motto, "I've got your back" requires a team effort so thank you to all our employees for their safety efforts. Every month we give one of our site staff the Noront Act of Safety Award. In August it was Brandyn Chum. We're giving give him a special shout out for always making valuable contributions to our health a safety culture. Congrats Brandyn and thanks for your positive attitude and amazing health and safety mindset. Read more in Eagle's Eye: https://bit.ly/2HcrQIw #mining #safety #COVID19
