The thing about being a principal in a place you love is that it is easy to forget that you are just a visitor. While some staff may remain for most of their careers, principals move to meet the needs of the school board. Our stay is always temporary. The thing about my visitor’s pass to Westfield is that it began in a field before there even was a school. I stood in that field and I could imagine the possibilities; I knew exactly how I hoped this new school would feel. I... wore work boots and a hard hat and walked the halls when they were still gravel; and while I did these things I just knew that this place would be special. And then the people came, the staff, the students, the parents and the community and they made those imaginings from that field come to life. Westfield is special. This is a place that feels safe, welcoming and like home. This is a place where lost teeth are celebrated along with new babies and puppies, and every accomplishment, no matter the size. It’s a place where tender-loving-care is as common as the ice packs that are handed out for every bump and scrape. This is a place where taking care of the heart is as important as growing the mind. But I have just been visiting. April 9 will be my last day at Westfield as I will move on to a system principal position at the board office. This school will always be a special place, not because of the field it stands in, or the building itself, but because of the amazing people that fill it with kindness and hope every day. Thank you, Warriors, for making me feel so welcome for so long. Take care of each other. K

HPSTS has announced that Bus 8 is cancelled for Westfield tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 14. All of our other buses are running. If your child rides a bus, please make a habit of checking ourschoolbuses.ca and the new bus app each morning.
