A #CampbellRiver angler was fined $1,501 for killing a Wild Steelhead on the Quinsam River a species protected from harvest by closures throughout B.C. The in...cident, which took place in Feb. 2019, was reported to the COS and Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). The joint investigation led to charges under the B.C. Sport Fishing Regulations. In late November 2020 in Campbell River court, the angler was fined $1,501 for catching and retaining more than the daily quota, under the BCSFR. The fine will see $1,500 go to the Oyster River Enhancement Society. Current steelhead populations along the Quinsam River are estimated to be in the low hundreds of fish. A beautiful day to check out the Lower Mosquito Creek Salmon Enhancement Project site. Low tide and relatively low flows for this time of year. Everything holdi...ng up nicely as expected. Always fun to check out how higher flow events have been interacting with the large woody debris structures. Looks like the channel has moved slightly here on our first LWD jam. Which is not a bad thing, the creek is dynamic and ever moving. We can expect constant small changes. Will be interesting to see how the Spring freshet will shape things up.
