Ross Harvey Merrill and Margaret Gail May 5th and 6th, 2021. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Harvey Merrill and Margaret Gail Ross. After a month long battle, both Merrill and Gail succumbed to complication due to the Covid 19 virus within 17 hours of each other. Merrill and Gail are survived by their children Craig (Laurice), Alan ( Lorraine) , Scott (Heather) and Leanne (G-Ball). Grandchildren Bradley, Brianna, Austin, Hannah, Ally, Harvey and W...yatt. Family was everything to the two of them. From raising their four children, to watching their family grow with grandchildren. They were so proud of each and everyone of them. Merrill and Gail were both born and raised in Montague, Prince Edward Island and moved to Squamish in 1969 with two baby boys, Craig and Alan, and the family grew with Scott and Leanne soon following. They remained in Squamish, with a short stint in Vancouver, for the next 51 years. Merrill was well known in the logging and construction industry. Known for his old school work ethic and someone who could always be relied on. Merrill drove logging trucks, highway trucks and gravel trucks and always loved to keep the wheels rolling. Honesty and integrity were the trademarks of Merrill’s personality. Gail was the ultimate team mom, who loved supporting and volunteering with youth hockey, soccer, baseball and ringette within the Squamish community. Gail was also well known for her very kind and loving demeanor which was obvious to anyone that had the pleasure of meeting her. After 54 years of marriage, Merrill and Gail’s love and devotion for each other was always obvious to all who knew them. They will be greatly missed by all. Paul Colin Jay On Saturday, May 1, 2021, Paul Colin Jay, son of PEI and whose adopted home is Deep River; in his 89th year, went to join his parents Frank and Eunice (McIntyre) Jay. Paul was the seventh of eight children: Franklin (survived by Ida May), Mary (Glenn), June (Art), Leona (Harold), Natalie (Armand), David (Dot) and his surviving baby brother Kimble (Elsie). A family from Mount Stewart, PEI; the nicknaming, storytelling, step dancing, fiddling, card-playing famil...y lovin’ capital of the world! Paul Jay lost his Mom early in life, and his sisters and brothers were more like parents that raised him and Kimble with much love and a sense of responsibility that he carried through life. He married Shirley (Mullen) Jay from Tracadie, PEI, and added to his close-knit family with Phyllis (Rogers Bell), Millie (John) and Patsy (George) and so many beautiful nieces and nephews that he absolutely loved like his own children. Paul became the most decorated scholar-athlete at SDU receiving athletic letters for hockey, football, and track. In 1952, Paul was selected for an All-Star Rugby Tour of Great Britain as Co Captain. Paul would be part of two McCurdy Cups Maritime Titles. Graduating with a science degree, he was picked to be a pitcher for his City League Dodgers, where one of his greatest moments including throwing many no hitter games, including 19-straight innings in a double header, yielding 7 hits without a single walk. Jay’s hitting provided the winning runs in both games of the double header. Paul was admired for his incredible athletic abilities, with an induction into the PEI Sports Hall of Fame for four sports. He is well-known through the Valley for continuing his love of sports, including being on the top scoring line of the competitive Deep River Rockets hockey team, league MVP, Senior Baseball League pitching and hitting. Paul played hockey, fast-ball, and golf, conquering one after another! He even was trying to waterski at the ripe age of 88. But nothing compared to his love and pride of his wife and his own family. Shirley was his world. His daughter Margo (MacArthur), Darryl and Jayden, and son Terry, Kim (Tesolin), Mackenzie and Connor were cherished. Paul passed away at the Ottawa Civic Hospital and left this world the way we could all find comfort fast and in peace. In Memoriam Craig MacEwen, August 17, 1971 May 5, 2020 Sometimes I just sit quietly reflecting for a while imagining your voice, your face, and your warm and loving smile. Often, I get lost in recalling the happy times we had. You played such a special role as an amazing friend, Husband and Dad. And at this special time, I only wish you knew that I would give all the world for one more hour with you. But I still have my memories, and since we have been apart it comforts me... so much that you are right here in my heart. We will love you forever and always, Juliana, Kurtis, Zack, and all your family and friends. https://www.saltwire.com/prince-edwa//craig-macewen-55081/ North Shore Funeral Home shares this Memoriam for your convenience and for the general interest of those living in our area, wherein this person or their family is or was known.
