North Sydney Fire & Rescue 31.12.2020

Merry Christmas to one and all! We got word that Santa had a little bit of free time before the big gig tomorrow night. So we snapped him up for a personal appearance tomorrow morning. Take a drive by the Emera Centre tomorrow morning at 11. Santa and a few firefighters will be there to say hello to all the kids. Because of Covid, it's a drive by, but he'll still be there!

Georges River Fire and ourselves hooked up with Supervalu to have a food drive. All the donations were given to local food banks.

I know what an Argo is... and I know what a Sherp is ... IS Argo going to partner with Sherp? That would be an ugly beast but I bet you would never stop it!

Had a great day in the woods. We shot the daylights out of each other at Cape Breton Paintball. Highly recommend it for an afternoon out. Professional, fun, well equipped. Give them a call.

Fire ground search and rescue techniques must be practiced consistently if you have any expectation of perfoming well under real fire conditions in the middle o...f the night. A technique of vent-enter-search (VES) is used in many parts of the country. This skill involves entering a room from an exterior window, ensuring the door is closed, search the room and then exit through the same window you came in. There can be significant risk to firefighter safety and therefore regular practice is necessary. Today's training nugget demonstrates VES, take time to watch this informative session and then...Practice. See more

Well well well ... Look what happened last night... AA Munro came by to present our little model with a cheque for $1000.00 for coming in second in Firehall photo contest. (Charlee donned some bunker gear and had Dad take her picture)

Well this happened last night. Raising money for our local cancer center, we took some offers to embarrass ourselves. We won't reveal the exact amount right now, but it would be safe to say that the moustaches cost a few people a few hundred and the red hair- well, that stuff don't come cheap! we are still fund raising, with more challenges to come. We have a goal, and we will meet it.

just an extra measure of safety ... why not use battery powered candles? A lot safer than a flame. You don't want us visiting during the holidays! Play it safe

My thanks, as Chief of North Sydney Fire & Rescue, to all our firefighters, for their hard work this evening. Pet lives were saved, a professional job done and no one was injured. Can't do any better than that.

Telephone service at the fire station (794 4700) is restored. Aliant was in, did some rewiring and tucked up the cable in the street. All good for now

Well. That wasn't as bad as it was made out to be. The world is back to the normal we've gotten use to. A little Teddy distraction came in handy

Morning All. Storm update, as much as we can find out. Much the same as last night. Storm has not hit land yet, but it has dropped in strength from hurricane to tropical storm. Some time early this morning (between 8 and 9 am) it should land between Halifax and Canso. Expect increased winds and rain as the morning progresses through to dinner time ( noon) Gusts could reach 100kph on the coast and rain upwards of 60 mm. Power outages are still being reported and schools are closed for the day.

North Sydney Fire & Rescue 28.07.2020

Evening folks... just to update on the storm. Please do not be lulled into a sense that the storm is over. It isn't. It's still coming and building. Expect the worst later tonight and into tomorrow. Rain is still listed as much as 100 mm and winds, while technically a hurricane at this point, will be a post tropical storm by tomorrow. Still nothing to sneeze at. DO NOT LET YOUR GUARD DOWN. There are currently multiple power outages in the province affecting about 3000 people. NSP has many crew on standby from all over Atlantic Canada. Above all- be safe, hopefully you're prepared by now.

North Sydney Fire & Rescue 11.07.2020

Good Morning All. ( at least for now) The weather is coming. Not a hoax, not fake news. Real weather coming at all of us. Read this now, because power will most likely be out. Be prepared. Some tips: - have a three day kit. That means enough resources to survive three days without power or services. Have a radio, batteries, cash( no power-no atm ) first aid supplies. Water. Land line phones will still work whereas cordless and cell will eventually lose power. Your bathtub c...an hold up to 100 gallons of water. -take your pets in - please. -take in or put away you lawn furniture -if you use a generator, make sure it's outside and hooked up properly. And by outside that means NOT in the garage. Carbon monoxide is silent and a deadly killer. you will not smell it. -when the power goes out, try to NOT open your fridge, it will stay surprisingly cold if you don't open the door. -stay off the roads. Trees will fall and water will rise. You're safer where you are. - emergency services will be busy, but we will be there for you.! The weather is predicted to start as rain later this afternoon.(Tuesday) Heavy rain and wind will continue throughout the day and overnight into early Wednesday.

Structure fire on September 16th. Numerous challenges at this fire including over 40 detonations of various kinds demanded a defensive operation from the word go.

North Sydney Fire & Rescue 21.06.2020

easiest lesson ever...

North Sydney Fire & Rescue 09.06.2020

take note... Not just on how fast the fire spreads, but of the reaction to the fire. The gentleman in the chair just sat there and stared. A lot of time people don't believe there home is on fire and you really only have seconds to get out. Not 10 or 15 minutes, but seconds. Don't hesitate-evacuate! In the second video ( the first was real, the second video is a demonstration) , watch the results that sprinklers can give.
