We continued with our Nursery Rhyme theme this week. We learned Hey Diddle Diddle and I’m a little teapot. They sorted utensils and transferred Cheerios from one dish to another with a spoon for our Hey Diddle Diddle day. They acted out I’m a little teapot and we had a tea party on the next day. We also did some painting with tea bags, but I did not take any pictures. We continued to focus on the letter N Amd the number 3 as well
This week was Nursery Rhymes week. We had so much fun with this theme! We learned Mary Had a Little Lamb, Hickory Dickory Dock, Three Little Kittens and Humpty Dumpty. We did many activities that help the kids develop their skills. Sorting continues to be a theme around here and this week we sorted into groups of 3. We learned about the letter N and continued to brush up on our counting. The pictures speak for themselves. The kids had some much fun smashing eggs today pretend...ing to be Humpty Dumpty. They also learned how to put him back together as I made a puzzle out of their drawings. They searched for mittens around the daycare just like the kittens who lost their mittens. We put the first letter of their name on their mittens so that they would find theirs and not their friends. We threw some dice to determine how the mouse would go up the clock and we made some cute sheep with cotton balls. I am impressed at just how much the kids are retaining from the things they are learning. I have an excellent program to prepare kids for school.
The last 2 days have been blue and purple. Yesterday, we talked about all the things that are blue, we did a sorting activity with blue items. We also read the book Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. Today we started off with a book about purple things which was very engaging for them. We then revisited the letter R and coloured rainbows on them. I then introduced the number 3 to them. I had them find purple items throughout the daycare and we put them in sets of 3. I asked them to find 3 purple things. I helped them count to 3 and showed them the number 3 at the same time.
Today was Green Day we started off with our usual morning routine and poem. Then we did a shape activity. I gathered green toys of different shapes and had them tell me what shape they are. I then asked to match them to the correct shape on our learning wall. We then read Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss which they found amusing. Of course, we made green eggs and ham for lunch! They were a hit!
Continuing with our colour theme yesterday, we started off with the book Mouse Paint by Ellen Stall Walsh. It’s a book that talks about mixing colours together to make other colours. The kids were quite interested in this. We did a fun mixing activity with food coloring and water. Even the baby practiced her pouring skills. We then tried mixing paint colours together to see if it would work as well. It was nice to see all the kids dressed in orange for orange day. Today was ...yellow day. We revisited our mouse paint story and discussed all the colours. We then reviewed the letter R and they went on another R hunt. We painted some yellow suns and did an activity with the toys. I had them each bring me something yellow and I sorted them into groups of 5, labeling them. I then had the kids count them several times while pointing to the written number. We also went outside for about 40 minutes, but brrr!!!! It’s cold See more
