Finding yourself clenching your jaw? You're not alone. Dentists across North America are reporting an increase in bruxism, the medical term for excessive jaw clenching and teeth grinding. Here are some tips that may help relax your jaw muscles: - Cut back on foods and drinks that contain caffeine, such as sodas, chocolate and coffee. - Avoid alcoholic drinks. Grinding intensifies after alcohol consumption. - Avoid chewing gum as it allows your jaw muscles to get more used to ...clenching and makes you more likely to grind your teeth. Most importantly, consider a mouth guard. A customized guard (also known as a splint or night guard) is an effective way of preventing damage to teeth, jaw joints, and the surrounding muscles. Reminder to replace your toothbrush regularly! Many people forget to replace their toothbrushes, but you must do this every 2-3 months, or more regularly if it starts to look worn or splayed. Remember: if your toothbrush is old or worn out, it won’t clean your teeth effectively and you are putting yourself at higher risk of dental problems down the road.

Thursday Tip: Remember to Floss After Eating Your Turkey Leftovers! Good news is that the star of Thanksgiving dinner is packed with protein. However, turkey can be difficult to eat because it sometimes gets stuck between your teeth... so don't forget to floss!

Does the ideal of tooth removal scare you? You're not alone. Tooth removal is necessary for a number of reasons like discomfort, decay, periodontal disease, and occasionally for orthodontic purposes. Our dentists are able to provide comfortable removal of teeth, as needed, here at the office. As the extraction of teeth can cause anxiety and stress for patients, we are fortunate to have Dr. Amir Ajar available at our offices weekly, registered with the College of Dental Surgeo...ns of B.C. to provide conscious sedation. Tuesday Tip: Remember to get your teeth cleaned professionally! Professional cleanings with a hygienist every 3-6 months helps you maintain a beautiful, fresh smile, and optimal oral health. There has seen a surge in dental patients with cracked or damaged teeth over the course of the pandemic, likely related to an increase in jaw clenching and grinding due to stress. We offer customized mouth guards (also known as a splint or night guard) as an effective way of preventing damage to teeth, jaw joints, and the surrounding muscles. Give us a call to book an appointment - 604-291-6696!
