Update from the CMTBC on Mar 24, 2020: This is in regards to the BC’s Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, issuing a letter to BC health professionals setting out expectations for all regulated health professionals in British Columbia. This letter also addresses RMTs, who as registrants of CMTBC are regulated health professionals in British Columbia. CMTBC's review and response to the letter below.... After careful review of the March 23, 2020 letter, CMTBC’s position continues to be that RMTs should not practice under any circumstances until otherwise notified. The risk of transmission of the COVID-19 coronavirus appears to be significant, and transmission can happen either from the patient to the massage therapist or vice-versa. Given the serious and potentially fatal consequences of COVID-19 infection, it is difficult to see how the harm principle justifies massage therapy either before treatment for COVID-19 is developed or before transmission risk is substantially lower than it appears to be at present.
Dear Patients, In her news briefing on March 21st, British Columbia’s Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, ordered that all personal services businesses involving close physical contact must close effective immediately. This also indicates that massage therapy practices will not reopen until this order is lifted.... I have cancelled all appointments until April 1st but I am expecting that this will go past April 1st. I will cancel appointments one week at a time following April 1st going forward. If you have received an appointment reminder please disregard it at this time. Online booking is temporarily suspended. For updates https://www.facebook.com/northburnabymassage/ I look forward to getting back to the clinic and helping my patients with their health. Once the health officer lifts the ban on massage therapy I will be in touch and we can move forward. I hope everyone is healthy and able to get through this trying time.
Dear patients, The CMTBC, massage therapists governing body has today (March 17, 2020) issued a strong recommendation to suspend practice. I am following their recommendation and suspending practice until March 30th. I will keep you posted on any new developments. Thank you for your understanding. Regards,Lee
