The argument that young people don’t try Aikido because they only want mixed martial arts or fighting arts is simply not true. Many of my students did not come to the dojo seeking to learn to fight. It is time to let Aikido be what it is. #aikidojournal #northdeltaaikikai https://aikidojournal.com//what-aikido-is-what-it-is-not/

Summer 2020 Session during COVID-19 During the summer, it was awesome to have outdoor practice at the North Delta Community Park. It was a wonderful opportunity to teach the use of the bokken. We worked on moving the body with correct posture, proper alignment, minimal tension, and steady flow. It was tremendous to see our core group of students back: Dale, Darcy, Sheldon, Yoko, Raphael, and Will. It was also great to have Marvin and Yuling join us for the summer. We had quit...e a number of drop-in visitors. Kevin, my physiotherapist, checked us out. Lizy, Jon, and Elias tried out an aikido class. Lizy won’t be able to join us for now due to her new job downtown, but Jon and Elias have decided to register for the fall season. The setting for outdoor practice was ideal. Sunny, but not too warm as the sun set in the background, some fresh air, a well maintained grass field, and a wide open space. The students did a wonderful job memorizing the forms that emphasized the movements from basic techniques (ikkyo, shihonage, and iriminage) while keeping in mind the principles I was emphasizing. I now have a greater appreciation for the use of the bokken as an incredible tool for teaching aikido movements and principles. I would like to thank the City of Delta, the Canadian Aikido Federation, and the British Columbia Aikido Federation for their help and support especially during the COVID-19. Let’s do our best to keep our practice alive. (Photo Credit: Dale Ziegler) #northdeltaikikai #summer2020 #keepourpracticealive

One of our student donated two spare gis. They are used and is the equivalent to size 3 and 4 from uniforms from Mikado in Vancouver. Does anyone want them? Send me a personal message via Messenger. #northdeltaaikikai #donations #sparegis

Yes, the importance of people working together. "I am very proud in a way to see the resilience and creativity of the Aikido community and I’m hopeful that through this time of physical isolation, we can build new friendships and alliances that transcend physical geography, organization, and lineage." - Kei Izawa #letsworktogether #aikidojournal
