Good evening friends, What a year 2020 has been. Little did I know a year ago when I produced the 2020 Fresh Produce Calendar just how significant 2020 would be. We've almost made it through to a new year and time for a new calendar! Time for fresh beginnings full of color and whimsy. Over the course of the past year's challenges, the need for art and play has become a kind of life line for me, a way to find joy in the present moment. ... Front Room Studio is excited to share with you the 2021 Artplay Calendar. This calendar has 12 original collage/paintings by Odessa Spore. Each image is selected for the month according to the sense of the season. The images are rich with color and texture, some abstract, some illustrative but all explorations through play. ARTPlay starts tomorrow on zoom 6:30 pm Atlantic time! A year ago I started something I call ARTplay. We could call it CREATIVEplay. Because that's exactly what it is. ... The idea is to give ourselves permission to explore, try out new materials, experiment and enjoy whatever happens. Like we did when we were children before we became adults and lost our ability to play. It is a time to intentionally connect to our childlike curiosity and unselfconscious expression. ARTplay is a weekly lightly facilitated space open to all creative forms of expression; music, dance, writing not just visual art. As the facilitator I use mindfulness techniques to connect with our senses and help us create an open starting ground for discovery. ARTplay is for the creative in you! Whether you identify as an artist or not we can all benefit from playtime! It works for both the experienced and aspiring creatives. It is not a traditional class. It's more of a team of people who want to put creative play back into their lives. It's a sharing of making, side by side. Every session starts with a check in, a quiet contemplation (2 min), intention setting, time for play/making, ending with show and tell. It can be hard to stay committed to our creativity and play at home with no other playmates, this is where ARTplay comes in. You can use ARTplay to try out something new and have a community witness you. Have you always wanted to write a short story? Or paint dancers or just see what happens when you play your instrument in a new way? If you have ever had a fleeting thought of inspiration, this is the time you can set aside to try out those ideas. ARTplay is not about critique. It's about birthing creativity.
