Recommended every spring before getting your horses back into riding shape, to get a good Chiro and massage. This will put your horse in alignment, fix any issues before you do more wear and tear and end up building muscle in wrong spots due to your horse counter working from the fatigue or pain. Your horse will thank you, just as much as Timmy thanked myself for cancelling my own massage appointment so he could have his. Fixed up some hip/shoulder and back issues from winte...r off and potential slips or falls that may have put him out and found some underlying problems to help go from here and make him feel the best! Any working horse should get Chiro and massage regularly, they work for us so it’s the maintance we should give them.

Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance Do I need to say it again? Horses put their bodies through hell to do the things we ask them to do. As a general rule ...the higher caliber the horse the more maintenance they will require. Why is this? Because they are exerting themselves that much harder. For every half second you shave off your runs you are adding significant wear and tear to your horses body. We expect these horses to go out and preform miracles over and over again and a lot of the time in less than ideal ground. So maintaining them should be at the top of your priority list! Don’t wait until they are showing signs of something being wrong before you get them checked out. Don’t wait until they are injured and have to have months or years off to recover. Staying up on regular maintenance can buy you years of success with a horse. Be proactive! Also DON’T OWN A 1D BARREL HORSE IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO MAINTAIN IT! Top 1D horses literally go out and tear themselves up every run they make. Even though breeding has progressed so much over the last few years to produce horses that are designed to run barrels horses in general are not made to do this job. Superior breeding has produced horses that are faster and more athletic, but the faster they run the more strain they put on their bodies. Thankfully VET care has also progressed significantly over the years. We now have so many resources available to help our equine athletes compete comfortably at a high level. It is your responsibility to utilize these resources. It takes a lot of TIME and MONEY to maintain a 1D horse. If you can’t make the commitment don’t take one on. -OT #AnOunceOfPreventionIsWorthAPoundOfCure #RockingATPerformanceHorses Awesome by: Kevin Miller of Ought To Streak See more
