Merry Christmas from NKS Ajax. Stay safe and healthy.
NKS word of the year 2020...Nintai , perseverance/patience. January 1, 2020 marked the beginning of a brand-new decade that many looked at with optimism and ...as a chance of improving our all around condition. But very quickly the year took a contradictory turn. Although we maintained effort and positive attitude, there were challenges at every turn. We felt things were simply out of our control. We did the best we could, and tried to lift the spirits of others, while feeling drained our selves. Yet we learned that those of us who have a why to live can bear anything, and raise above all circumstances. Maybe we lost our step, but never lost our purpose. We all know that 2021 has be simply ‘better. The pandemic will be controlled, the economy will return, and general feeling of angst will evaporate. We will travel to distant lands, and visit friends who are near by. We will train more, even grapple or spar together. Our class sizes will swell in numbers. At some point we will actually see the uncovered smiles, and hug loved ones. This will be accomplished by giving a bit of time, staying focused on our goals, and paying attention and respecting the needs of all. The imminent vaccines, are crucial (for physical and mental reasons). But the support and love of our families, friends and the NKS community is the true essential medicine for 2021. Nintai, Cezar Borkowski
What is the difference between a Kaishu and Koryu kata? I have my own experience-based views on this subject. Kihon, Kaishu and Koryu kata have their place and ...importance in the vernacular of Bujutsu. Kihon-gata is all about understanding the Undo or movement of your Ryuha (system). Ken- striking the target with a proper waza, Ki- manifestation of spirit, Tai- maintaing proper posture and composure, Metsuke- eye contact, Kiaii - piercing the target with a yell, are just some of the skills this method may develop. Pinan, Heian, Gekisai, Fukyu are examples of Kihon-gata. A kata of self-improvement. Second method studied should be the Kaishu-gata. It promotes the understanding of your given system (Goju-ryu, Shito-ryu, Shotokan-ryu, etc.). The attacks are gleamed from the catalogue of the style, and are responded in kind, at times with somewhat superficial, basic techniques, lacing real violent response. Bassai-dai, Saifa, Kanshiwa are examples of Kaishu-gata. A kata of face to face, controlled duel. Then there is Koryu-gata. Beyond the venire of simple block, strike and unbalance, there is a complete arsenal of punching fingers, biting, spitting, tearing, sand throwing and so much more. Superinpei, Gojushi, Nipai and alike. A caveat should be noted, you may be practicing these forms, but not in their original, intended way. Anyways, Koryu kata is born of the battlefield or the pavement arena. What are your views on subject; I welcome your opinions and even disagreement (disagreement breads a need to open your mind). A verbal friction is the essence of learning; only pressure can turn a lump of coal into a diamond.
Monday, December 21st was our last grading of 2020. It was done virtually on Zoom with over 50 students advancing to their next Kyu rank. Congratulations to everyone! Team NKS Ajax #NKSchanginglives #NKSstrong

Developing Koshi (hip based energy transfer) is essential to real Bojutsu. Even our seven and eight year olds show promises. .
STUDENT OF THE MONTH - NOVEMBER 2020 RESHIKA Reshika is a kind-hearted, and responsible young girl. She works hard at school and receives excellent grades and compliments from her teachers. She is a great role model and is known for helping other students. Reshika helps at home with various chores such as doing laundry and cleaning dishes. She understands the impact of Covid-19 on the elderly and makes sure to keep in contact with her grandmother. ...As well, Reshika enjoys singing, dancing, skating, and playing badminton. She always loves coming to karate classes and talks about wanting to become a Sensei one day. Reshika works hard during every Karate class and her perseverance is a good example for other students. We have seen a great progression in her training. We are proud to call her our Student of the Month. See more

Amazing job done by our Nidan graduates at today’s Black Belt Graduation Ceremony.
Most sincere congratulations to these steadfast members of the NKS on their upcoming rank advancement.
With our new reality; many families who opt out of buying ‘stuff’ are turning to martial arts. The gift of refocusing, physical fitness, learning new skills, developing healthy social contacts and overcoming stress, awaits.
Having a blast during Halloween classes.
