Seeking summer A minor knee injury coaxed us down from snow covered peaks. Kootenay Lake contained many manifestations of the coast, ferry terminals, wave lapped shorelines free of ice, and that mind bending three degree wet cold. In the darkness my mind conjured huffing seals and the smell of salt water. Every time I visit this province, elevation shows me multiple seasons, and a contrast that reeks of otherworldliness that nearby hippies would never deny.

I’ve been here for too long. The limitless information at my finger tips has made me insatiable. I scroll and swipe through a thousand thousand paths and options not currently my own. I watch the rise and fall of the TSX until the pattern seems to unfold at my behest. Then it doesn’t, educating me once again. I hardly have holdings and am largely unaffected, and yet I hunger for some way to beat the system. What has become of me? Am I simply one of the masses enslaved to the ...mighty river of information that cascades down upon all of us in a torrential waterfall? Is there a cure? Does everyone else feel like they are fighting a losing battle against willpower? What is it I’m looking for? Is this a shortened frequency of earlier patterns? The issue is not of place but of mind. Will this happen every time I fall stagnant, in place for too long? Light shines ahead. It comes not in the halogen of a westbound pickup, but of potlights and fresh paint, and further yet street lights on snow covered boulevards washing out the night sky. Saskatoon awaits, the final stronghold of my local haunts, and yet the first in my journey of equity. Is this a new chapter or a different book? Will having work in these capable hands ease my troubled mind? Will this ease all the stress and increase the value of our minds like it does the house? Come spring will the appraiser see more value in us, the builders? Two dreamers in an era of endless paths and infinite envy?

Mcloy’s. Many trips to the East have brought me around this bend. It’s a location that warrants everything, and yet I have given it nothing. As my time here nears it’s end I have a few trips to make, and with any luck one will be backlit green.
