A statement from ATA President Jason Schilling on next week's return to school.

Teachers' requests to be included in curriculum development have been ignored by the Minister of Education.

Our children deserve a better curriculum. One that is developmentally appropriate, that will teach them more than just facts. The current draft is full of inaccuracies and lacks the inclusivity that Albertans value.

Today's announcement does not do enough to keep school staff safe. The government keeps using stats about students, while telling us that students are safe, without considering the impact that covid has had on staff. School staff are not being prioritized for vaccinations but they are exposed to hundreds of students each day. The stats also do not speak to the reality for families when staff and students have to constantly isolate due to being in close contact with a positive person in a school.

This curriculum has many errors in it and was plagiarized from multiple online sources. It is also developmentally inappropriate. Albertans should be very concerned about the implementation of this curriculum. Contact your MLA today.
