Northern Teardrop Trailer 12.01.2021

Now here's a beauty!

Northern Teardrop Trailer 28.12.2020

Winter is Coming Barry and Claudia picked up their trailer just last week and wasted no time breaking it in. That looks like a very warm, welcome fire. I am told the jet in the photo at Princeton airport actually works as a weather vane! :)

This just in from some of our happy happy Saskatchewan contingent..."We camped for one last weekend in Saskatoon! The low this morning was -3C but we were cozy!!! That makes 7 camping trips may to October. This trailer is the best purchase I've ever made!" We have the best job at Northern Teardrop - such a joy to to be part of making it happen

JUMPING WATER SPIDERS Murder hornets? Pffft - child's play compared to the 1" hopping water spider I encountered while camping last week. Now regularly, I'm the guy that gets called upon to rescue the occasional wayward spider who happens to find himself cornered in the bathroom, and having a furry arachnid friend clamber up my arm as we make our way to the door and a longer life does not bother me. BUT, staring eye to eye to eye to eye to eye to eye to eye to eye to eye to e...ye with a 2" obviously crazed and rabid relative of Boris the spider in the most unthinkable of places - while swimming out to a log some 75 yards out in the lake, can be a little unsettling. Adding to the terror is the fact that this 3" hairy monster is hopping across the surface at an alarming speed straight to me. I mean, I have never even heard of a hopping water spider before this and yet there he is, hopping straight for me, quickly advancing with his 4" leg span at 3" per hop towards my vulnerable face and by now I can clearly see the blood dripping from his fangs. So I did what any other father and grown man would do, I screamed and splashed him toward my daughter who, being a little quicker on the ball than I, dunked underwater to avoid certain death by spider. Now apparently my defending war-cry (that others seem to have mistaken for a shriek of terror, something like that of a teenage schoolgirl) did what I had intended and frightened that 6" beast away. Recomposed, and back in the role as Spider Rescueman, I sought him out and allowed him to leap onto my toe (by now he had used his powers that all Hopping Water Spiders possess, and had reverted back to his original 1" dimension). We paddled backward in the inner tube toward shore, leg and spider raised high like some misguided Olympic Torch Bearer. But it seems my best Olympic effort was not quick enough for my little fuzzy friend as he was nowhere to be found when we reached Terra-firma and I had to wonder where he had gotten to. That question was answered a couple of hours later when from the direction of the lake we heard shrieks and something about a spider and then a big SPLOOSH as the teenagers jumped from the little spider. Pffft, fraidy-cat school girls. See more

The good folks at Treadhead Garage in Edmonton got their custom built off-road trailer last week and wasted no time putting it to work. A collaborative effort with the trailer frame including Timbren suspension system by Treadhead and teardrop by Northern Teardrop. Can't wait to see the places this little trailer is gonna go!

Good morning Dale, hope you guys have been having a great summer so far! I've seen that you've been very busy hope you've had time to enjoy it! The camper has been doing us great! I've used it surely over a couple dozen times this season and am still so in love with it. We went to Ucluelet on the island just a couple weeks ago and so far our greatest adventure yet. I figured I'd finally send you some photos of our amazing set up and surf trip. - Kris

Northern Teardrop Trailer 21.08.2020

Northern Teardrop Trailer 03.08.2020

Camping season has begun and the trailers are jockeying for position.

We had a great time meeting Kathleen. Sorry to see her leave so soon. Work commitments and Covid delayed her 1/4 of a year, but better late than never! Happy Birthday Kathleen!

Northern Teardrop Trailer 28.06.2020

Perhaps one of the nicest things about a Northern Teardrop Trailer is that "anywhere" becomes a camp spot. Simply unhook from the vehicle and push it into any old spot. Now this is camping :)

Northern Teardrop Trailer 27.06.2020

Hi Dale! It was so great meeting you both. We had a smooth drive to Cranbrook and made it to Edmonton Thursday. I have already been showing it off to the mom's on my street - it's funny the things the mom's point out - "a FRIDGE?" Then I wouldn't have to get ICE! And a TAP? So funny. We are already working on a few trips and, after today, I have two more moms game for the mom/kid trips. We'll send photos!... Thanks again, half the fun in getting the trailer was working with you Jenni & family

Northern Teardrop Trailer 22.06.2020

Low impact camping, leave no trace. Bob and Kathryn leaving the shop to go do their part in their environmentally conscious Northern Teardrop Trailer. No need for a big gas guzzler to go camping in style and comfort. Have fun!

Northern Teardrop Trailer 16.06.2020

As Canadians we are blessed with so many free camping spots in such fantastic locations. Just remember to completely put out the fire and leave your camp spot cleaner than you found it and we will all have these places to enjoy forever.

Northern Teardrop Trailer 11.06.2020

Thanks to Roy and Vanessa (eager to pick up their trailer and get back home to Alberta), we know what 7:30 in the morning looks like - Hahaha. Just kidding you two, you are such a fun couple - you are going to have a great time in your new trailer. Thanks and enjoy :)

And there go some more happy campers. Jeep camping now in comfort and style :)

Northern Teardrop Trailer 25.04.2020

Some of the more local customers are starting to come pick up their trailers as restrictions loosen and camping looks imminent. What better way to celebrate the end of a long winter and longer spring. Getting out safely in your Northern Teardrop Trailer is going to feel extra special this year ! :)

Northern Teardrop Trailer 16.04.2020

After a few years of camping fun and adventure this is how Northern Teardrop owners say goodbye when the family outgrows it and it's time to pass the torch. Now off to it's new owners for more fun and adventure. :)

Northern Teardrop Trailer 14.04.2020

You know, on the other hand there are some brighter moments with this world moving in slow motion right now, I muse, while I take a moment from building trailers and I sit in the warm spring sun listening to the birds in the trees and last night's snow dripping from the branches around me, Cat Stevens serenading me from the open shop door. Life is good, we'll all get there again. Keep safe everyone, we brought in enough materials as this was all ramping up to keep building for three months. Your trailers will be ready when it is safe to come get them and the lakes and rivers will be warm, the fish will be biting and we will all enjoy the sunshine that much more. :)

Northern Teardrop Trailer 29.03.2020

As many of you know our daughter is a Paramedic and very proud of the job she does, as are we. Please read the travesty that is taking place right now during this emergency....

Northern Teardrop Trailer 25.03.2020

Well folks, even though as I look out the office window and see the snow coming down, I know summer will be here in no time! By then I am sure you all will be as happy as we will be to get along with normal life - and for us, that that means camping! Diana and I are happy to tell you that it is business as usual (kinda) here at Northern Teardrop. We brought in enough materials and supplies to stay holed up here at the shop and keep building your trailers for almost 3 months. We will have you ready for camping season! :) In the meantime, stay home and stay safe.

Northern Teardrop Trailer 15.03.2020

Life is what you make it Just like in this picture from last year in Haida Gwaii, where some may see a dismal rainy day with no rain pants, we see an opportunity to don our best "rain kilt" (aka garbage bag) and strike a Captain Morgan pose. So too was today an excellent day. Despite the Covid 19 troubles I made it across the border to pick up a load of doors. Yes this puts me in self quarantine for 2 weeks, but the doors were the last item we need to hole up and keep building your trailers for the next 2-3 months. Life is good.

Northern Teardrop Trailer 04.03.2020

In true Canadian fashion, even the seasons try to satisfy everyone. Where else could the best surfing and best the skiing be found in the same months - we're so weird :)

Northern Teardrop Trailer 27.02.2020

Ok, so it may not be about your trailers themselves, but it was something I wrote up last year - inspired by my walk home from building those trailers. So thank you all.

Northern Teardrop Trailer 13.02.2020

The "High Clearance Pkg" doing it's thing - keeping the trailer from bottoming out in the ruts and potholes.

Northern Teardrop Trailer 03.02.2020

A little story about putty tape (and Dad) I remember as a kid, the putty tape that Dad would use on the home made trailers he built for us some 50 years ago now. The crinkly paper you could peel away leaving that long strip of perfect grey, sticky putty. Sure it made a great long lasting seal on the trailers but as a kid, there was more important things you could do with it. You could press it against the comics to pick up the cartoon image, or even against your brother's fac...e - just be ready to run. You see, as a family we all loved camping, and though Dad and Mom worked hard, we didn't have the money to buy a trailer, so with necessity being the mother of all invention, Dad went and built a couple trailers over the years, and I was there to eagerly pick up those putty scraps. And he built those trailers to last - he was building them for ourselves after all. There are cheaper ways, there are easier ways, but perhaps the reason why we still use the putty today on our trailers at Northern Teardrop, is because we build them the way Dad did - we build them to last. Perhaps this is also the reason we are not the most expensive teardrop trailers out there. Maybe helping others get out camping affordably is worth just a little bit more. I think Dad would be proud. Cheers Dale

Proud to say, we fought - this is in our own back yard

It may be winter but at Northern Teardrop Trailer we are busy as can be getting your trailers ready. Here a recently completed trailer is moving from the shop into covered storage to await it's new owners in the spring.

Northern Teardrop Trailer 26.12.2019

What do you do after you travel 37 km of muddy logging roads and find the campground is full? Well if you have a teardrop trailer you find a wide spot in the road, call it camp for the night and go kayaking. :) Last summer in Haida Gwaii

Northern Teardrop Trailer 17.12.2019

Jeff and family prove you don't need a large RV to enjoy the good life. Here they are camping last summer in Saskatchewan. We're so happy to be helping create family memories. :)

Northern Teardrop Trailer 02.12.2019

Apparently minus 10 is not too cold for camping - Corynn tells us she was warm and cozy :) . Another option is a "car heating blanket". (Ebay, Amazon among other places) At 4 watts and beneath the sleeping bag, it will add some warmth on those cooler evenings without killing the deep cycle battery overnight. Simply plug straight into the cigarette lighter.

Northern Teardrop Trailer 20.11.2019

Hi Northern Teardrop! Oh man we love our trailer so much. We camped almost every other weekend this summer and into fall. But now it seems that winter is on its way and it's time to store our trailer. We got a cover made for it and it will be stored in our drive way. Do you have any recommendations for protecting our trailer components in winter? How should we prepare the water system? We are thinking the battery should be stored inside. Is the anything else we need to do to... maintain the battery? Is it easy to remove? Thanks, Allison Hi Allison. We are so happy to hear you had so much fun in your trailer this summer. Making memories with your family - that is great! We are honoured to have been part of it. To winterize, drain the water tank and run the pump until no more water is coming out. Though we have never done done it ourselves (we only get down to about minus 22 C) but because you get colder, you should probably remove the pump because it may still have a bit of water in it that could freeze and damage the pump. Immediately behind where each of the water lines enter the pump is a little black tab that can be pushed back towards the wall. Once the tab is pushed all the way back you can wiggle out the black fitting that the white tubing goes into thus removing the water lines. Twist off the electrical caps holding the wires, separate them and the pump can be removed. Yes, make sure the battery is charged and remove it to store some place warm. There are battery tenders made specifically to keep RV batteries charged through the winter, or you can do it occasionally with a regular battery charger. Don't forget because if a battery slowly drains and sits dead for long it will be ruined. The aluminum near the battery will be grounded so don't accidentally touch the wrench to the positive terminal and the aluminum at the same same! Best to remove the negative wire first from the battery while you are also disconnected from the tow vehicle. This way the aluminum will no longer be grounded and removing the positive won't cause the shorting out on the aluminum problem.

Northern Teardrop Trailer 23.09.2019

We had another Teardropper show us a great little combo shade/rain shelter with detachable 2 person tent - so we bought one. As a shelter it covers a 10x10 area and is movable even when assembled. The 5x10 tent clips into the existing poles and when nestled up against the teardrop it creates a 5ft covered breezeway between trailer and tent. Great for keeping the whole family close together. "Coleman 2 for 1 All Day 2 person shelter and tent". Careful not to get the 4 person - will not allow for the covered breezeway.

Northern Teardrop Trailer 18.09.2019

Stumpy the 3 legged Ground Squirrel. We first met Stumpy 2 years ago at our favorite campground at Duncan Lake BC. Naturally we were concerned for his welfare - as a young Golden Mantled Ground Squirrel missing one front leg, how could he forage in the steep competition and constant fighting with the others. Apparently we need not have worried. Last weekend, at the exact same campsite, there he was, a little older and a little plumper (but aren't we all). Always good to see a familiar face out camping. :)
