Knowledge Corner: We love our many types of industrial pumps of all shapes and colours, but what came before them? You might be surprised to learn that the two oldest predecessors of today’s electrical displacement pumps are still in use around the world!... Invented by the Ancient Egyptians more than 2,000 years ago, the shadoof is in simple terms a pole with a bucket and a counterweight, manually moved and an essential tool shadoofs were widely used to access drinking water from wells. Around 200BC, Ctensibius invented the reciprocating pump (something in the pump moves and transports and displaces liquids with it), now known as the Archimedean Pump since it was first described in literature by Archimedes himself. Modern day Archimedean pumps can still be manually driven or if larger scale, are powered by a generator and gearbox.

Standard Dewatering vs Evaporation Whenever you find yourself in a situation where overly simplified there is water where it shouldn’t be, you generally have two options. Standard dewatering procedures involve either a submersible or a dry-land pump which will move the water from one spot to another (for example out of your basement into the street to be funneled into underground systems). Water displacement is easily accomplished by one or more of our pumps, depending o...n the scale customers are dealing with, but there is also a second, less well known way to get rid of unwanted moisture. Evaporation is a type of vaporization that occurs on the surface of a liquid as it changes into the gas phase. Evaporation of water occurs when the surface of the liquid is exposed, allowing molecules to escape and form water vapor; this vapor can then rise up and form clouds. With sufficient energy, the liquid will turn into vapor. That is where our evaporators (see pictures) come into play. Knowledge corner: Pump failure and not sure why? I could be cavitation! The impact tiny vapour bubbles can have! ... In order to avoid cavitation damage, make sure your pump specs fit the intended application (you may need to up-size if your job ends up taking too long or the pump can’t handle the workload) and keep your equipment clean and free of debris! We will always help you pick the right pump for the job - call us to discuss BEFORE cavitation damage occurs! (And if it’s too late - we’ll fix it for you!)
