North Island Seniors Housing Foundation 28.06.2021

On January 15th, 2021, the North Island Seniors Housing Foundation formally applied to the Community Housing Fund to finance & sponsor the construction of 40 Units of Seniors & Elders housing on Trustee Road, Port Hardy. We are very hopeful this application will be successful, and have worked very hard to bring this project to fruition. If you want to see this housing need move forward, or have any concern pro or con, please make these known to the Foundation, or your commun...ity representatives, MP or MLA. Kindest Regards Gordon Patterson North Island Seniors Housing Foundation

Update November 24, 2020 The Foundation is yet to receive a building go-ahead however we are overwhelmed by the support North Island & other peoples have shown for Phase 1 of this needed seniors & elders housing project. North Island communities are wonderful, made even better by our natural multicultural environment, an inter agency willingness to work together, generosity of business individuals & community groups, volunteerism, and the grace & presence of our senior citize...ns. Our pioneers have given us so much. BC Housing has notified us that all October Provincial housing proposals (including the North Island Seniors Housing project) have been evaluated. All requests were given a ranking score and will now be forwarded to the Minister for review (once the Provincial Government forms a new cabinet). It will then be up to the Minister’s office, assisted local MLA support to make the final determination to announce which community projects will be supported. We are grateful to those who have shared an opinion to our Provincial & Federal representatives in support of our housing development. We believe our local seniors & elders interests are deserving of Provincial housing funding. In this regard Community support as voiced by you is so vital in such matters. Please keep your fingers crossed that our North Island receives good news.... and please continue to voice your support for North Island seniors & elders housing wellness. Kindest Regards, Gordon F. W. Patterson, Chairperson North Island Seniors Housing Foundation

North Island Seniors Housing Project Open Letter. Hello All,... As we await a Government decision on the funding of our North Island Senior’s Housing project I would like to take this opportunity to express the Foundation’s sincere appreciation to each of you: The Tom & Mary Russel family, the Foundation membership, the Kwakiutl and Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw peoples, Federal and Provincial representatives, the Development Team, the District of Port Hardy, the Mayor, Regional & District administrative staff, BC Housing, and many others. District administrative staff and the Project Management Team are poised with all prerequisites in place to quickly move Phase 1 forward to building permit construction phase once given BC Housing approvals to do so. You and the Development Team have created a quick response plan that can adapt to whatever changes in project scope that may be mandated by BC Housing. You all have contributed so much.... study analysis, artistic design, scope, and form to a project that started Dec 16th, 2016. Each have showed a tremendous effort to make a much needed senior’s & elder’s housing project successful. The Foundation believes in each of your development capacities and is so appreciative of your dedication. You and the Development Team have done an extraordinary job creating a defendable seniors housing solution that includes: ~ Defendable scope and form through needs study analysis ~ Security & protection of our senior & elders ~ A pandemic responsive facility ~ Best value use of the property ~ Best value in construction ~ Inclusion of appropriate amenities for our seniors and community ~ The health & cultural interests of our seniors are met ~ A community project meeting community expectation ~ Island Health cluster health provision Safe and secure independent aging-in-place requires stakeholder, community, and local authoritative input into housing & amenity design. You each contributed assuring a collaborative project design offering of a range of flexible services and construction methods calibrated to fit the needs of our North Island populations. Thank you Team for a job well done. Now lets hope our project meets government approvals. Sincerely, Gordon Gordon F. W. Patterson, Chairperson North Island Seniors Housing Foundation
