WHY A REGULAR DENTAL CHECK UP IS IMPORTANT A regular dental check up is important because they help keep your teeth and gums healthy. You should have a regular dental visit at least every 6 months or as recommended by your dental professional. Depending on any pre-existing bone loss you may benefit from seeing a hygienist for scaling more often to monitor bone loss and prevent bone loss progression. If bone loss is not stable you may be referred to a periodontist to help. ... What happens at your dental visit? There are 2 parts to a regular dental visit check up, or examination and the cleaning, or oral prophylaxis. At the dental check up your dental professional will check for cavities. X-rays might be taken to detect cavities between your teeth. The exam will also include a check for plaque and tartar on your teeth. Plaque is a clear, sticky layer of bacteria. If it is not removed, it can harden and become tartar. You cannot remove tartar with brushing and flossing. If plaque and tartar build up on your teeth, they can cause oral diseases. Next, your gums will be checked. This will be done with a special tool to measure the depth of the spaces between your teeth and gums. With healthy gums, the spaces are shallow. When people have gum disease, the spaces may become deeper. The other reason for regular check-ups include a careful examination of your tongue, throat, face, head, and neck. This is to look for any signs of trouble - swelling, redness, or possible signs of cancer. Oral cancer is a serious condition that can spread fast and be deadly. Having regular exams help detect it early and survival rates improve with early diagnosis. Schedule you exam and cleaning today to help keep you teeth, bone and gums healthy and have a cancer screening often so any suspicious areas can be caught in the early stages by your dental team.

https://www.parents.com//the-surprising-truth-about-cavit/ This is a great article for all parents to read. It highlights how the bacteria that causes dental decay and periodontal disease is transferred from parents to their babies. It is not normally genetics that causes soft teeth but acquired in the first year when babies are developing their digestive bacteria. They often acquire the bacteria needed for their digestive tract from the people closest to them. Parents, ...grandparents, siblings and care givers can pass on proportions of good bacteria or bad. Studies are just being done now on how does levels of the bad bacteria transferred affect the developing GIT, does it have any relation to colitis, Crohn’s and colitis? How does the bad bacteria levels affect the developing brain etc. It is not acceptable to just say my parents had bad teeth and that’s why I do too and this is why my kids do. It can be preventable and once your child has their oral and GI bacteria needed for digestion set it is very difficult to change. Help them develop healthy levels to start and set them up for a healthier mouth which is the start of our digestive tract. Please read and send to your friends.
