#StoryTime: When Englishman B.C. Hilliam arrived in #NorthVan in 1911, he identified a need for theatrical & musical entertainment. Together with a number of other amateur actors, he assembled a vaudevillian group known as The Queries. One of the earliest performances was put together by the troupe in 1913, a play written by Hilliam titled '1963: A Futurist Comedy with Incidental Music.' The bulk of the play was set 1963 and focused on the ‘future’ of North Vancouver’s politics a very different future from their 1913 reality in which the civic council was made up entirely of women. Tickets were said to have sold faster than real estate for this progressive play. Read the whole story & many more at northshoreculturecompass.ca! North Vancouver Museum and Archives NVMA 6341.

#StoryTime: Wishing you all a #HappyThanksgiving! This year, we're thankful for the #NorthShore's stunning natural heritage and the life-giving ecosystems it provides. A perfect example of the spectacular natural heritage that can be found in our own backyard, the Spray of Pearls Falls is a beautiful cascading waterfall located at the Northern tip of Indian Arm near the historic Wigwam Inn. When the Inn opened in 1910, visitors began making the short hike to the falls as a... day outing. Shortly thereafter in 1916, Jane Parkin published a love story which told a tragic tale about how the waterfall came to be.
