Statement by Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Tragic Accident Causing Loss of Life Victoria, BCIt is with great sadness that we announce the loss of two of our rescue crew while on duty. At approximately 11:30 am PST on Sunday June 3rd, 2012, four members of the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCM-SAR) from Station 12, Halfmoon Bay, were on a training mission when their vessel capsized in Sechelt Inlet. Two of the crew were assisted by another vessel in the a...rea, but tragically the other two crew lost their lives. The cause of the capsizing is not yet known. At this time, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of these brave women who gave their lives while training to save others. We offer our condolences and honour the women who gave their all to assist the community. We have a simple mission to save lives on the water, and today we are heartbroken to have lost two of our own. There is a deep sense of disbelief, shock, and sadness amongst our crews across the province. We wish to thank all the many people and agencies who came to assist, including boaters in the area, the Canadian Forces search and rescue crew from Comox, B.C. Ambulance crews, the Canadian Coast Guard, and the crews from RCM-SAR who were called upon to search for their colleagues and friends. Regardless of whether on sea, land or air there are no boundaries in the search and rescue community, and this loss will be felt by all. Thank you to all who have shown support in this difficult time. The Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue can confirm a training accident today has tragically taken the life of two members. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of these members. An official statement will be released tomorrow.

Saturday, February 4th our crews will be taking the ferry across to Sidney to take delivery of our new vessel! This has been a 5 year project and we're excited to be bringing her home! Watch us heading to Deep Cove Yacht Club in the afternoon.

Our vessel is currently undergoing sea trials in Sidney, BC!

We will be going for sea trials of our first new vessel Monday in Sidney, BC! We're excited and hopefully will take delivery in the following week!

Wishing everyone the best for 2012! We are excited to report our vessel replacement project is nearing completion with delivery of two new vessels in the next 2 months. We thank everyone for their support!

Thank-you to the 18 members who attended the Annual General Meeting tonight. We welcome our incoming board members and thank the outgoing members for their contributions!

We all had a great time at Party at the Pier today and saw a lot of familiar faces and met a lot of people! Bobby, Putka and the crew of Auxilary 2 thank all those who came out and stopped by!
