PET OF THE MONTH! Stella was born in 2012 in Cawston, BC. She is a purebred Labrador Retriever. Her mum was a black lab and her dad was a yellow lab. When Stella was born she was one of twelve pups in the litter! The interesting fact about her litter is that there were four black labs, four brown labs and four yellow labs and each colour had exactly two males and two females in each colour. Amazing! Stella is 8 1/2 years old and the best decision we have made. She has been ...a joy for our family and is such an affectionate girl and a great family pet. Her natural instincts would have made her a great hunting dog or bird dog if given the chance. She loves to chase chipmunks, squirrels and is easily enamoured with a bird in the air. Just say, bird, and she’ll look in the sky. Her gentle disposition has made her the perfect pet. Her favourite activities are hiking, boating, fishing, playing in the sand, swimming and sleeping. She loves to swim in the lake, chase a stick or ball and also loves to swim in the neighbours pool! She is a loyal companion. #petofthemonth #stella #lab #labradorretriever #labsofinstagram #beautyqueen

PET OF THE MONTH FOR DECEMBER! Hello! My name is Isaac and I’m a 6-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog. I was born in Armstrong, BC and have grown up on the North Shore. My favourite words are BEACH and MOUNTAIN. I take my parents to these places often. You could say I’m obsessed with rolling in the sand and snow. I go everywhere with my mom and dad. I love travelling and road trips. I’ve been all over Canada and the US. I’m pretty good at keeping my parents company.... I bring my baby almost everywhere I go but especially when I visit my friends at the North Shore vet. He tries to keep me calm. I’m very grateful for the nice, cookie-giving staff who make me feel special and cared for! You’re such a special boy Isaac! #bernesemountaindog #petofthemonth #isaac #berner #ocean #mountainlife

Pet of the Month October 2020 HAPPY OCTOBER! We have chosen such an amazing dog for our Pet of the Month for October! Seymour is a 4.5 year old Shepherd mix who has quite the history! We are very thankful he was able to overcome his health challenges from when he was younger. ... Originally from Williams Lake, Seymour moved to the North Shore when he was nine months old. After fighting a serious fungal infection with the help and support of the North Shore Veterinary Clinic in those first few months, he has gone to fully embrace life on the North Shore. Now almost five years old, Seymour loves swimming, running the trails, befriending small dogs, and visiting everyone at the clinic. We are so happy to have you around Seymour! Here's to doing tricks with you next time you come in to see us!

Introducing JOVIE! She is our Pet of the Month for August! Jovie is a 14 week old English Staffordshire Bull Terrier. People are her absolute favourite and she is always wagging her tail hoping to get anyone’s attention. Her favourite toy is a frisbee which she loves to fetch. She started puppy training classes at 9 weeks old and can reliably sit, down, come, and go to mat. Her best friend is a 1 year old Mini Aussie Shepherd named Maggie they love to run around together. So far she hasn’t learned to be a true North Shore dog and hates the rain but hopefully she will learn to love it soon enough. #staffie #staffordshireterrier #petofthemonth #jovie #blackdog

OUR PET OF THE MONTH FOR JULY! Heeeeere’s Stella!! Stella, joined our family on Feb. 10, 2020. We picked her up from the airport after a long flight from Taiwan. It took a bit for her to settle in after her previous life struggles but she has become a member of our family and we are all completely in love. She is super fun and playful as well as a snuggle bug! She loves to hike with us and I‘m sure she gets about 4 times as much excersize as she is constantly running. ... She also loves her stuffies and chasing the ball. #petofthemonth #petofinstagram #adoptdontshop #socute

Pet of the Month for May! Hello! My name is Bear and I am a one year old Pomchi-what that means is that my birth mommy was a Pomeranian, and my birth daddy was a chihuahua. I was born in Langley, BC, and my human mommy picked me up from the house where I was born, when I was just 11 weeks old! Since then I have got to do so many fun things, like go to doggy daycare, where Ive made so many friends! I am a very friendly little boy and I absolutely love to give kisses and... cuddle with my mommy on the couch. I have two cat brothers and one dog brother, and they are my favourite people ever (apart from my humans)! One thing I hate is when people walk by my yard, and I let them know it by barking really loud! A fun fact about me is that my mommy thinks I look exactly like a little elf with my giant ears, and they like to move around like satellite dishes! I love all food, but will do absolutely anything for a piece of cheese. Well anyway, thats me, nice to meet you! #pomchi #petofthemonth #bear #cutiepie #browndogsofinstagram See more

North Shore Veterinary Clinic 15.08.2020

Dear North Shore Veterinary Clinic clients, In light of mounting concerns about the momentum of COVID-19, we would like to reassure you that the clinic intends to remain open - subject to directives from the Federal Government - and staff are taking every precaution possible pursuant to the recommendations of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and Provincial and Federal Governments. MEASURES TO KEEP OUR STAFF AND CLIENTS HEALTHY... In the interest of this, we are implementing strategic measures to protect veterinarians and support staff. We hope you will understand that these measures are designed to ensure we can continue serving you and your furry loved ones. ***Effective March 18, 2020, clients will no longer be allowed to enter the clinic. Instead, we ask simply that you give us a call on arrival at the clinic and a staff member will assist you outside and bring your pet into the clinic for assessment and treatment. We also ask that you please try and maintain a distance of two metres from our staff during your interactions with them*** - All payment transactions must be conducted by credit card over the phone. - Elective visits are not a priority at this time so we ask that clients delay those until the COVID-19 situation stabilizes. We will advise you accordingly. - Finally, we are changing our Wednesday clinic hours. The clinic will now be open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. - We will be monitoring developments going forward and will keep you updated as information becomes available to us. Veterinary care is considered an essential service and, as long as we have healthy staff, we will continue to be here for you and your pets. MAINTAINING A SAFE AND CLEAN CLINIC To provide further reassurance, we have implemented additional measures within the clinic: -We are not allowing veterinarians or support staff who are exhibiting any symptoms of illness to come into work. We appreciate your patience as we have a current shortage of support staff. -All surfaces are being regularly sanitized, and increased handwashing has been put into effect. PHARMACEUTICALS AND FOOD: As of Monday, March 16th, our veterinary supply distributor informed us that they have received an excess of order requests for pharmaceutical and food products. At this time, they are unable to provide a timeline of when orders will be processed and shipped. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience during this time. Please remember that some circumstances are currently beyond our control and we are doing our best to help you. If you have any questions, please call the clinic at 604-980-0440 or email [email protected].

PET OF THE MONTH MARCH 2020 Butters was born October 8th, 2018 in Deroche, BC. He was the runt of his litter, his Moms name is Mia and his Dad is Mushu. I met the Breeder through a Co-Worker, she was going to keep him at first, but luckily for me she didnt. His favourite thing in the world is attention, as Im sure the everyone at the vet clinic already knows. He loves when people pay him attention and will stare a person down until they acknowledge him (he loves to do thi...s in elevators). Hes so happy when they acknowledge him and pet him. If hes not on a leash when he meets you, he will jump on you so youll pet him. Hes a fan of facial hair, if a man with a beard picks him up, hell shove his face right into it. Hes always excited to meet people and other dogs. He is a frequent guest at the off leash dog park in New Brighton. Hell make the rounds and meet every person and dog there. He still has puppy energy and it makes people laugh when he runs around acting crazy (its not often you see a pug do that). He plays with any dog that will let him, size doesnt matter. Im also lucky enough to bring him to work. Everyone loves to see him and I might be biased but I think hes the favourite of all the dogs that visit our workplace. He just has such a happy personality, its hard not to like him. Hes also a fan of human food. Hes tried just about everything thats safe for dogs, his favourites are ham, chicken, cheese and shredded carrots. Hes not fond of chips. His dislike list is smaller but there are a few things. He doesnt like it when people are mad at him, hes mastered the sad puppy face when hes being disciplined. A loud voice in his direction will see his little corkscrew tail flatten out. Hes actually not a fan of any loud noises, like the vacuum, or when someone crumples up paper. The only other thing he doesnt like is the rain, he HATES going outside in the rain." Butters is so adorable that we had to post all of the pictures that his mom sent us. Enjoy them and we hope they bring a smile to your face like they did ours!

PET OF THE MONTH FOR FEBRUARY! We have chosen such a beautiful cat to be our newst Pet of the Month! River is a silver British Shorthaired cat who is 1.5 years old. His family absolutely loves him, this is what they have to say.... "River is absolutely adorable, he has brought so much laughter into our family. Our food driven kitty has no preference when it comes to eating, he is very curious and explores the world through having a bite of everything, edible or inedible A...lthough as an indoor cat, River is a proud hunter. Anything with wings you name it, flies, fruit flies, bees, moths, no toy with feathers could last more than a week. During his off time, River sleeps on his back showing off his round belly, nothing wakes him until we come home. He rushes to the front door everyday to produce the sweetest meows welcoming us home and lies down asking for some belly rubs before he goes back to his tower of course. Unique, solitary yet a great accompaniment, he is truly a love at first sight!" #petofthemonth #britishshorthair #silver #catsofinstagram

PET OF THE MONTH FOR JANUARY We are starting off 2020 with one of the staff favourites! Her name is Chrissie and she is an absolute doll!... Our beautiful Chrissie came to us as an emergency foster when her elderly human need to go into care. She was 5 years old and as we usually adopted dogs over the age of 10, the intent was just to evaluate her likes and dislikes over a few months and find her a forever home. We already had a dog at the time, JJ, and he absolutely fell in love with Chrissie (as did we) and that was it we failed fostering and JJ had a younger sister. Chrissie was completely bonkers when we first got her, a typical border collie in many ways she was always moving, always spinning, intensely watching and wanting to please. Over those first 9 months she lost 20 pounds (1/3 her body weight at the time) and learned how to swim at Tofino in the April surf. She absolutely loves swimming now and whenever we go to Tofino she is the happiest dog in the world, she tears down the beach and launches over the waves into the ocean. She is a great paddle board buddy, laying down on the front of the board watching the water world drift by. Balls however are her true passion, its like she can smell spherical objects; we will be out walking in a park, in the pitch darkness and she will take off with some mission in mind and come back with a ball we literally have a 5 gallon bucket full of random balls retrieved on walks. She is a very enjoyable dog to play fetch with as she always brings the ball right back to your feet and drops it and of course demands that you throw it again. She is a fantastic soccer player, she dribbles the ball between her front feet (paws) and will kick it over to you of course like all great soccer players she wants you to kick it right back to her so that she can show off some more fancy foot work. She also loves a good stuffed toy, she promptly takes off the ears and legs and de-stuffs it in record speed. Chrissie is now 13 years old and is quite a lot more calm than her early years (sometimes she even sleeps now!) although you wouldnt think that if you waved a tennis ball in front of her. She is a pure joy to be around and we feel so very lucky that she came into our lives.

PET OF THE MONTH FOR DECEMBER Introducing Simba-Coco! Simba Coco is just the most amazing cat! He is a Bengal, but looks more like a very large, beautiful, handsome Tabby cat. He is loved and cherished by his forever family.... He is very smart and loves to go on hikes and swim! Simba Coco is an indoor only house cat, who has a deluxe outdoor den with independent access. He loves to go on hikes on his leash. He is such a big cat that his leash and harness are for a small poodle. Simba Coco loves to swim. Yes, a swimming cat! We must be careful when filling up the bathtub to keep the door closed, as otherwise he just jumps in the tub. His forever family has taken him for hikes around a lake, and he has gone swimming in the lake. Beware of the doors! Simba Coco is such a smart cat; he knows how to open doors. He stretches his long body up, and grabs the doorknobs with his paws, and turns the doorknobs. So far, he has not figured out how to unlock a door, but if the door is not locked, the cat will open it. Unfortunately, Simba Coco had a rough start to his life. When he was about a year old, he was discovered as homeless and starving on the cold streets of Prince George in the middle of winter, by the Prince George SPCA. He was then shipped down to the West Vancouver SPCA, where he was adopted by his new loving, forever family. Clearly, he had been abused by his first Prince George guardian, and it took him a long time to trust his new forever family in North Van. Simba Coco is now the most incredibly loving and trusting cat, and he loves to curl up on laps and purr loudly. Simba Coco also loves going to see Janice at the North Shore Vet, for his bi-monthly manicures / pedicures. He loudly purrs in the car and is always delighted to go to the Vet. And we love seeing him too! #petofthemonth #bengal #cutiepatootie #northshorevet

PET OF THE MONTH FOR NOVEMBER Everyone needs to meet Joey! She is such a great dog, always friendly and cheerful! Her family loves her to pieces, heres what they had to say Our sweet Airedale, Joey, is an outdoor enthusiast. She loves hiking lower Mt. Seymour with all her doggie friends, paddle boarding and swimming in Deep Cove and Cates Park with her human and doggie friends, and loves snowshoeing Dog Mountain.... She is a Virgo, born seven years ago, and is very good with people of all ages. Like any doggie athlete, she, of course, loves chasing cats and squirrels. She is very fit and, as Bob Horne once called her, she is a gladiator. Joey can be naughty and defiant, is quite independent and inquisitive, and is always looking for opportunities to get into trouble. If you walk through our door she considers you her new best friend. She brings so much joy to us and others. She is our toddler forever, and we feel so blessed to have Joey as part of our family. We love you too Joey! PETS OF THE MONTH FOR OCTOBER We have chosen two adorable cats to highlight and be our Pets of the Month for October! Ace and Tinker! This is what their family has to say about them: ... Ace and Tinker are brother and sister pair that we adopted through PetSmart. They often love playing and chasing each other around the house. We have a three in one tunnel system that they love running in and around to catch each other. Ace thinks our bathroom sink is another bed that fits him perfectly. He does like to be the centre of attention. His favourite toy, and the only one Thinker allows him to play with, is a coloured ball with foil paper in it. He loves to chase it then plays with it on his own bating it all around the house. His favourite thing is having his tummy rubbed and rubbed and rubbed. Eventually we get tired doing this. So much for cats not liking their tummy rubbed. We refer to Ace as the Lover Boy as he is very affectionate. Tinker is the Boss. She owns all the toys except for the one ball she lets Ace play with. She can open every bi fold door in the house. At meal time if Ace does not finish his food Tinker immediately slides over to his bowl, finishes eating Aces then goes back to her bowl. Her favourite thing is playing fetch with her mouse. We throw the mouse, she fetches it, runs back and drops the toy at your feet and is ready to fetch it again. This goes on until one of us gets tired. Fun interacting with her in this activity. These cats are definitely living their best lives! We love hearing how happy and healthy they are!

PETS OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER Introducing Velvet! Velvet is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, originally from Coombs and will be 10 in November.... Her nicknames include Saucy, Saucy Lady, and Saucisson. She loves EVERYONE, but especially kids! She lives with 2 cats (and a gecko she has never met!) but the other cats in the neighbourhood better look out. Somehow she doesnt see them the same as the ones she lives with. She also has a horse sister and likes visiting her at the barn. She loves most vegetables and fruits including carrots, cucumbers, peppers, strawberries and apples, and cheese and meats and pretty much anything you give her that isnt kibble! Velvet loves to stick with her family and go for car and boat rides. She doesnt do so well if someone jumps off the boat to go wake boarding or swimming. She wants to go after them but doesnt swim. She is definitely a little neurotic. She doesnt like loud noises, fireworks, or yelling. She has a hard time sitting still if we are out somewhere. Its hard to get her to go for a walk if its raining or too hot or any other time. She is happy hanging out in the yard when the weather is nice or on the couch otherwise. She is a total love bug and always wants to be close to someone in her family. Velvet likes coming to the North Shore Veterinary Clinic for the care, love and treats. She knows where all the treat containers are and will happily go into the back to visit everyone!

PET OF THE MONTH FOR JUNE This is Pecas, he is always dressed to impress!... He was born in Langley, BC on August 4, 2017. He had a brother and 2 sisters. His mom is a short haired Chocolate Merle Chihuahua and his dad is a long haired Chocolate Chihuahua. His markings are very unique and the amazing thing is he has a partial blue eye! His absolute favourite toys are his 3 Stuffed Dragons (must be a GOT fan!) Chicken necks and dried sardine treats are his favourite foods-who doesnt love those? He just loves long walks at Spanish Banks that include running in the sand. Hes still working on the water! Burrowing beneath the covers like a typical chihuahua keeps him warm at night. He Spins in circles when he is excited which is standard before any meal! Hes a trickster too-has just mastered sit, shake a paw, dance and lay down! Pecas-we love you! Keep on dressing up for us!

PET OF THE MONTH FOR MAY We have chosen two adorable Ragdoll cats to be our Pets of the Month for May! Here is what their loving as to say about them.... Charlotte just turned 3 and Jack Jack is 8 months old. I got Jack Jack from a fantastic ragdoll breeder, Karli from Flowerbaby Ragdolls in Iowa. I flew out a week before my birthday to get him. It was quite a journey, needless to say, he drew alot of attention at the airport, hes a chatterbox for sure. He would not stop crying on the plane, it was embarrassing but the people were very understanding and patient. Charlottes quirks is that she is a kleptomaniac. In that she likes to steal and hide things. I have found her stockpile which consists of underwear, toys, hair clips, socks, pretty much anything and everything that she can carry. She also likes to drop her toy mice in my bed. Very nice to wake up to. If you dont want her to take stuff, its best to lock your valuables. She also fetches, chatting with birds and enjoys making biscuits. Jack Jack is a true floppy ragdoll. When you start petting him, his legs turn to jello and he just flops, its the funniest thing. He is also an extremely loud purrer. Very therapeutic for the soul. He knows when youre having a down day, hell just come and snuggle you until you feel better. He also likes to drink from the tap and hang out in the sink. He does not like to share new toys, he growls if you try to take it away from him. Hes very attached to me, but for whatever reason, around 9 or 10pm, he retires to the bedroom for his alone time. They both have no concept of personal space, theyll follow you from room to room and will not let you do any work, if there is paper or a keyboard, they need to be on it! If there are boxes, they need to be in it! They dont make very good assistants. Charlotte is a picky eater but Jack Jack likes to eat everything, so when it comes to treats, it doesnt matter, hell eat it, there is no off button. Im very lucky to have them both and would never trade them for anything, well maybe tacos because I have a weakness for them. Thank you for bringing such beautiful cats to our clinic to see us!

PETS OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL! Ziggy is a brindle male Great Dane with cropped ears, he will be four years old in April and he weighs 160 pounds. Zoey is a fawn girl Great Dane with natural ears, she will be two years old the following day and she weighs 140 pounds. Ziggy and Zoey have been coming to North Shore Vet their whole lives to visit Auntie Jen and see Dr Clemett and Dr Sang.... Zoey is a terror with vegetation, she likes to chew sticks and mash ferns and stomp hydrangeas. She thinks a thrown stick is the best invention ever, though she doesnt like to bring them back to you. Ziggy is a gentle giant who loves to cuddle and nap. Ziggys favourite toy is his orange squeaky. He likes to squeak it at you and then dance out of the way when you reach for it. He is definitely laughing! You can have the best naps in the world when youre snuggled up to Ziggy, as long as youre on the side that doesnt have the kicking feet. When Ziggy and Zoey chase each other in the yard, their feet drum on the earth the way horses' feet do. They love to play fight, standing on their back feet and bouncing their chests together. But they are best friends, and when playtime is over, they sleep nose to nose in front of the fireplace. They are REALLY BIG, but they will always be our puppies.

PET OF THE MONTH FOR MARCH My name is Bella aka Bella-Bella-Smoocherella and I am big sister to my little brother Benji, aka Benjamanno. I am 14 years old and Benji is 13 years old, and we are happy and healthy Havanese-ers! We love to go for walks at the beach and the river and we love car rides too! I am the first one at moms feet in the morning when shes making our breakfast, as Benji is a sleepyhead and likes to sleep in.... Benji often gets the zoomies in the evening and goes crazy running all over the living room. I think this is ridiculous behavior, so I just sit back and watch him entertain us all! Oh and he also purrs like a cat when he gets cuddles!!! I always announce anyone passing by our driveway and once I alert Benji, he joins me on neighborhood watch! We love snuggles with our family and we love to chase the squirrels and the birds in our backyard. We make sure all the animals know that this is our turf! We love getting treats and we love our toys which we shake back and forth and flip around so they go flying across the room! Were always up for playtime and we love to do this after weve had our breakfast. Whenever our family comes in the door we run fast to get a toy from our toy basket and hurry back to show them. We love this game!! I am so glad mom and dad decided to find a little brother for me when I was 3. Benji was 2 when he joined our family and he was born in Texas! I was born in Saskatchewan and flew on a big airplane to join my forever family when I was just 8 1/2 weeks old. We love our family and we are so grateful that they chose us to be their furbabies!

PET OF THE MONTH FOR FEBRUARY Introducing Cassie, our newest Pet of the Month! Cassie is a small female collie who is currently about 45 lbs. Shell be 5 years old this coming May.... She was rescued from a local adoption agency about 3.5 years ago when she was 18 months old. Her family would describe her as joyful with a wonderful, sweet personality, friendly, gentle and great company. When she is happy she may lie on her back kicking her rear legs upwards tail wagging . Her mom calls this the Cassie kick! Sometimes she purrs like a cat when she falls asleep. Its a lovely comforting sound when she lies in her bed beside her family. During dog classes one of the instructors called her Princess. She has a very feminine walk and manner so this name fit her perfectly! Cassie loves to meet other humans and dogs on her walks. She starts to whine as they come closer. Its so loud that often the other owner starts to laugh at this and greets her warmly. The other dog is not sure what kind of greeting this might be! Her mom said, I have taken her to my husbands facility to visit. I was so pleased with her reaction! She is a natural therapy type dog greeting all the residents in their wheelchairs. Enjoying all their gentle pats. Cassie is so lucky-she has so many favourite toys! She has a purple and pink snake that she hides treats in, a bone shaped Kong that holds a Dentastix for a tug and treat, balls that have holes for hiding more treats and fetching and of course a stick when off leash that she can retrieve. Cassie is most definitely following her instincts as she tries to herd when she does walk off-leash! All in all she is a great companion for her family-they love her so much!
