The days are getting shorter and the weather is turning grayer and grayer, but not here at NSA! Our young artists are always adding some bright colors to our life. For the holiday season, they are pleased to present an annual Winter Art Exhibition where students express their vision of winter. Prepare yourselves, the ideas are bright, original, and diverse! To praise our talents, NSA organized a contest with awards to be given. We ask our community to support this initiative... and vote on our Facebook page by liking your favourite artworks. The deadline to vote is TUESDAY, the 15th of December. Thank you for your participation and support!

With mid-terms around the corner and the first half of the year coming to an end, the Grade 11 Grad Committee decided it was time to spread some cheer at NSA by hosting a hot chocolate sale. Remise Desjardins! We are very excited to have been chosen as the recipient of the Semaine de la Coopération grant by our partner Caisse Desjardins. We submitted a project to create a digital library that will entice students to become life-long learners and to continue to grow their ability to properly use media and technology through instructions and activities. La Caisse Desjardins remitted a $2000 grant towards our Digital Library. Thank you !

North Star Academy Laval knows the importance of our student’s mental health especially during these difficult times. It is for this reason that we invited jack.org to be part of our weekly assembly to raise awareness and break the silence. Jack.org is a charity that trains and empowers young leaders who are revolutionizing mental health. They are working towards a Canada where young people understand how to take care of their own mental health and look out for each other. A Canada without shame, and where all those that need support get the help they deserve. NSA is lucky to have amazing teachers who took the time to make a board where students continue to leave each other words of encouragement. Thank you Mental Health activities continue to happen all week!

North Star Academy Laval keeps student's wellbeing at heart and cares about their social and emotional learning. Even if students have fewer opportunities due to the lockdown to socialize, go on field trips and participate in different activities, here, at NSA, we keep student life diverse, energetic with full of learning opportunities! Within the Visual Art program, we started a series of workshops in collaboration with our students’ parents. We invited parents who practice ...art professionally, as a hobby, or have some life-changing experience to speak about. The first workshop of the series was dedicated to the art therapy of trauma. Ms. Hivron Turanli, the mother of our two grade 8 and grade 9 students, came in, to speak to our grade 9s about her experience of working with Kurdish refugees in Iraq conducting art therapy for children in a refugee camp. The workshop was to inform students about this aspect of art and let them experience the positive impact of art therapy. We are lucky at NSA to have a multicultural, diverse, and sharing community where opportunities for students are created to widen their scope, learn in action, and connect their learning to life.

Community Connections at NSAL: MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) North Star Academy Laval is happy to welcome back MADD Canada for their annual presentation on the consequences of impaired driving. It is important that our students are aware of the danger and impact of impaired driving in hopes to save lives in the future. "MADD Canada’s school presentations bring high-energy drug and alcohol awareness and risk reduction messaging to the world of education. The presentations are designed to communicate directly with young people on their level and in their language, and encourage them to take a closer look at their values and perceptions." The grad committee decided to host a mystery event for the month of October!! The popular head cheerleader was found at the bottom of the main stairs at school. Luckily she was not mortally wounded but she does not remember what happened. The only thing she does remember is her assailant was someone from her...own...class The graduating class was given different characters to read over and play with. By asking questions and putting the pieces together can they solve the mystery of who cheered for the downfall of the cheerleader? Who is the assailant? Who is sus? Who can you trust? The game begins now!
