Picture this. You want a vehicle. You pay hundreds of dollars to take a safe driving course, then pay more for a license. But to get the license, you'll have to provide references, the signatures of everyone you live with, a history of any recent breakups, job losses or other personal details. You'll have a complete background check, as well as a criminal record check every day you hold the license. The license can be revoked at any time if you do anything wrong. 3 to 9 month...s later, your license shows up. Next you get to spend large amounts of money to get set up with your vehicle and you even need to show your license to buy fuel. With your license, you buy a truck because it suits how you want to use the vehicle. You get your truck and go about your business, harming no one. One morning you wake up to the news that your truck has been reclassified. Your license is now the wrong class to own the truck. No license will now let you own the truck, so you can't even upgrade the license. You're given 2 years to get rid of the vehicle or accept a government cheque for market value of the truck. Here's the problem. You're not allowed to sell it. No one is allowed to buy it. It effectively has no value anymore. You've done everything right, had extensive screening, taken good care in how you use the truck, but in spite of your best efforts, you're now faced with taking a huge loss or becoming a criminal, despite having done nothing wrong. This morning, tens of thousands of gun owners across Canada experienced this exact situation. No parliamentary debate, no democratic procedures, no consultations with owners. In a dictatorial move, thousands of innocent people were vilified and left with hard choices and big losses. Trudeau's gun ban won't prevent criminals disobeying laws. That's what makes them criminals. All it does is targets the millions of Canadians who like to shoot targets on the weekend, or who compete in professional competitions around the world.
