Welcome Back Five-lined Skinks! Back in 2013, Thousand Islands National Park restored several rock barrens for the at risk Five-lined Skink, Ontario’s only nati...ve lizard species! Five-lined Skinks are known to use loose rocks on barrens for warmth, food, to avoid predators and even laying their eggs. At the restoration site, rocks had been removed from the barren to make fire pits, inuksuks, and flag pole cairns. This resulted in the loss of habitat for skinks. This year, Parks Canada staff confirmed that Five-lined Skinks have returned to the restored areas in Thousand Islands National Park! Even a rock can be home to sensitive species. Someone less fortunate needs help! If you've ever seen the woman that lives in a tent behind Swiss Chalet? Her name is Tanya... She has a dog named Karma. She c...alls the station all the time she seems like a nice lady. But she just called me and said while she was gone to charge her phone... Someone stole her tent with all her things she needs to survive! She has no food for herself or her dog, she has no supplies all she has to sleep on tonight is blanket!
