Shoutout to our Brantford, Ontario facility, where we've recently been undergoing some exciting changes - 23,400 square feet of new warehouse space, to be precise. This addition lets us keep our finished product inside and out of the elements, and allow for easy freight with six new loading docks. VULCANIZATION NWR takes recycled rubber from end of life tires and fuses it together under extreme heat and pressure to form a solid, non-porous rubber mass. Think of it as similar to the way a diamond is formed in nature under extreme pressure and heat. ... THE RESULT This vulcanization process creates a hygienic surface which repels moisture and bacteria collection. Tire recycling who makes it happen in BC? In 1991, on the heels of Ontario’s infamous Hagersville tire fire, BC became the first province in Canada to implement a recycling program for end-of-life tires. At that time, North West Rubber was just one of two recycling and recycled rubber processing companies in the program. Flash forward to 2021, and those two recycling-centric organizations NWR and our friends at Western Rubber Products are the lone survivors in BC...’s program (now delivered by Tire Stewardship BC). In honor of #TBT here is a photo of one of our trucks from the early 70's. See that #recycling symbol on the side of the truck? Back then no one knew what that meant. We were recycling before recycling was the thing to do. People only wanted new materials and products back then, so much so, that it became more of a detriment to display that symbol. Today NWR is a leading, global recycled rubber manufacturer. Look how far we have come!
