It's called the "slow" issue after all, so take your time and savour these pages. https://issuu.com/northwo/docs/northword_winter_2018-19_web
Congrats to Denise Pedro from Kitimat for not only finding the N but also being the lucky winner of the special Northword mug! For those who couldn't find it, the N was hidden horizontally in the ripples next to the woman's right shoulder.
Just two more days to get your entry into the "find the N" contest! Keep hunting, we've had correct entries, which means it is possible!
Contest time! Post a northern BC picture (with location) of a "fall adventure" in the comments below for a chance to win two tickets to see the Jenie Thai Blues Band at the Fort St. James Community Hall Theatre on October 20, hosted by Pope Mountain Arts! (Winner announced this Saturday - Oct. 13.)
"The frothing water was a brilliant, crystalline white, but as we drifted through the pool below a cataract the colour changed gradually to jade green and finally a stunning aquamarine before re-entering the rushing current." Check out Paul Glover's story of adventure on the Nass. (Illustration by the inimitable Facundo Gastiazoro.)

Sure, we're all seeing these stories that snow is coming...but there's still time for lots of us to get out hiking without digging out the requisite winter gear! All of the trails we share each issue are archived on our website - and there are tons to choose from! This is the latest (thanks to cartographer, hiker, and proofreader extraordinaire, Morgan Hite): http://northword.ca/words/recreation/onions-little-and-big
Getting colourful for fall... Watch out northern BC, copies of the "Colour Issue" are coming soon! Cover photo by Marty Clemens.
Stay tuned for an article about the book and its role in reconciliation, coming in our next issue. In the meantime, this Saturday is an amazing opportunity to show support and take steps (literally and figuratively) towards a shared future.
Congratulations to Riki Jager from Comox for being the lucky winner of the "find the N" contest! We'll be sending your Northword mug soon. The symbol was hidden in the wrist tattoo of the arm holding the antler. Stay tuned for our next issue (and contest), coming out in about a week's time!
"The Raven would have laughed long and deep had he glimpsed two grown men, chimped over their wristwatches, slowly spinning in deep mossy circles, glancing hopefully this way and that, squinting to the tree-tops for just a hint of direction-revealing sun, absorbed in the hopeless dance of the lost." "British Columbia’s dramatic landscapes offer infinite peaks and gullies to explore and as many places to get lost. You don’t need to be armpit-deep in devil’s club or traversing a lofty glacier. You don’t need to have embarked on an epic, multi-day mission or be bagging a big peak."
