Hi Everyone, I wanted to give you some information about cleansing your liver at this time of year. We have come out of Winter, which is a slower time of year. That means our bodily functions were also slower over the winter months.... It is now time to get things moving in your body. One of the best ways to get things moving in the body is to get the liver moving, detoxify the liver and support the liver. The Liver is located in the upper right hand portion of your abdominal cavity, beneath the diaphragm, on top of the stomach, right kidney and intestines. The Liver is responsible for over 500 functions in the body so it is vital that the Liver is functioning at prime capacity. Signs of a sluggish liver: feeling tired constantly, weight gain around your middle, cravings, headaches, poor digestion, feeling nauseas after fatty meals, intolerance to smells such as perfumes/colognes, pain in the right side of your stomach, skin rashes etc. Here are some foods that help to support the liver: Sour foods tend to nourish the liver. A refreshing glass of lemon water has a diuretic effect, which can help you flush toxins from your body. Start the morning off with a glass of warm, lemon water to get things moving. Ginger is a warming food that nourishes blood, improves circulation, and has antibiotic and antibacterial effects that can help your body cleanse toxins and fight pathogens. You can easily add a few slivers of freshly sliced ginger to teas, porridges and soups. Turmeric is a pungent spice that decongests the liver, clears heat from the body, and improves the flow of blood. Add a dash of turmeric to a bowl of soup or a rice dish, or brew it directly to drink. Turmeric powder is also present in many Indian curry recipes. Dandelion root cleanses and cools the blood and nourishes the liver. Springtime is the ideal time to drink dandelion tea. Not only are dandelions in flower during this season, but spring is associated with wood, the element of the liver. Consuming artichokes can help clear liver heat. The plant also contains a compound called cynarin, which promotes bile production and urination. The magnolia berry has anti-inflammatory properties and is known to nourish and protect the liver. Brew it as a tea and drink a cup per day. Black beans can help to expel excess damp and heat. To make black bean soup, bring some water to a boil and simmer a handful of black beans. If you like, you can add some goji berries for a bit of sweetness. You can also roast black beans and eat them as a snack. Milk Thistle is an herbal remedy derived from the milk thistle plant. Another name for it is Silymarin. It can be used to help support the liver and also helps the gallbladder. Spring is the perfect time to help support the Liver after Winter.
