The #COVID19NS restrictions that have been keeping people safe and healthy have also prevented many arts and culture activities from taking place. To help organizations adapt and maintain their operations through this difficult time, the province is awarding $2.1 million in one-time grants. 89 organizations will benefit from the provincial investment, including the Acadia Cinema Cooperative which will receive $19,715 to continue to operate the historic Acadia Cinema building in Wolfville. Its facilities, which include the Al Whittle Theatre, Studio-Z and Jack's Gallery, play an important role in encouraging, supporting and sustaining Nova Scotia's cultural community in the Annapolis Valley and beyond. A complete list of the grant recipients is available at https://cch.novascotia.ca/investing-in-our-future.

Virtual celebrations began today, January 26, for African Heritage Month with a provincial proclamation launch and poster unveiling with Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc, Premier Stephen McNeil, and African Nova Scotian Affairs Minister Tony Ince. The provincial theme, Black History Matters: Listen, Learn, Share and Act, calls on all Nova Scotians to make a better society by recognizing the long-standing history and legacy of African Nova Scotians, and by acknowledging racialized issues and adversity for people of African descent. Nova Scotia is committed to removing barriers for persons with disabilities. To support that commitment, the province is investing $960,000 in 88 projects through Community ACCESS-Ability grants to improve accessibility in buildings and public spaces: The Friends of Annapolis Pool Society is receiving $6,969 to make the pool in Town of Annapolis Royal barrier free and wheelchair accessible by upgrading the entrance from the sidewalk to the pool deck and installing an aquati...c chair lift. The lift will allow users to independently access the water. Community ACCESS-Ability grants help with improvements like ramps, power door operators and lever door handles, barrier free washrooms, elevators and lifts, audio signals and loops and lighting/colour contrasting and playground accessibility. Community medical and housing organizations are critical in providing safe services to communities still facing medical and social disparities. That’s why government is investing more than $20,000 to assist with accessibility renovations at the North End Community Health Centre in partnership with Adsum for Women & Children. The North End Community Health Centre (NECHC) supports the health and well-being of community members in Halifax Regional Municipality through quality p...rimary health care, education, and advocacy. It offers a caring environment where individuals are treated with dignity and respect while having access to equitable services. The funding will go towards the refurbishment of a satellite building in North Dartmouth. This new health and housing hub initiative will provide residents with additional access to housing support, primary health care, a pain/harm reduction clinic, and other specialized health care services. For more information about the North End Community Health Centre, please visit: https://nechc.com For more information about Adsum House for Women and Children, please visit: https://adsumforwomen.org For more information about CCH grant and funding programs, please visit: https://cch.novascotia.ca/investing-in-our-future
