I’ll Be Your Voice Nurses have touched so many lives. It is rare to find someone who does not have a story about how a nurse made them or a loved one feel safer, better, cared for during a challenging time. The song I’ll Be Your Voice touches on these sentiments. Written for the NSNU by Cape Breton singer/songwriter John Gracie, the song is an ode to nurses and the important work they perform. ... Please enjoy this beautiful song once again, as National Nursing Week 2021 comes to a close. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl8RTLBt4hY.

Every year, NSNU president, Janet Hazelton speaks to nursing students about the realities of nursing and professional practice. This year is no exception. Through virtual classroom settings, Janet is able to connect with students - eighty students from the Dalhousie University nursing program on May 11th and eighteen practical nursing students from the NSCC Middleton Campus, today. It is especially poignant to have these conversations this week, National Nursing Week. These future nurses are witnessing and experiencing a world health crisis; making plans to answer the call and commit to being part of the solution. Happy National Nursing week to all nursing students across the province.

Thank you to federal Health Minister Patty Hajdu for meeting with nurse leaders from across the country on this #NursingWeek. It was important to hear reports o...f staff shortages and the impacts this is having on nurses' mental health and patients, only worsened by COVID-19. We look to the federal government for urgent leadership. Featuring leaders from: Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU), Registered Nurses' Union Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia Nurses' Union, Prince Edward Island Nurses' Union, New Brunswick Nurses Union (NBNU-SIINB), Ontario Nurses' Association, Manitoba Nurses Union, United Nurses of Alberta, FIQ - Santé, BC Nurses' Union, Canadian Nurses Association (CNA-AIIC), and Canadian Nursing Students' Association.

Today is #BellLetsTalk Day, part of an annual campaign by Bell to end the stigma around mental illness and improve access to care and funding for research into mental health treatments and cures. Today, for every social media post that uses the hashtag #BellLetsTalk, Bell will donate 5 cents to the cause. We encourage all of our members and followers on social media to take part. Recently, NSNU joined with the Workers’ Compensation Board, government, labour organizations and others to launch an online resource for first responders who need mental health assistance. The website offers helpful tools and resources, including self-assessments, online counseling, training materials, and mental health apps. Learn more: https://firstrespondersmentalhealthns.com/.
