Island Health is continuing to see an increase in rates of Pertussis (Whopping cough) in South Vancouver Island. Children receive a publicly funded booster dose of this vaccine in Grade 9. Adults are recommended to receive a booster dose of the pertussis vaccine, if they have not received one in adulthood. The vaccine is not publicly funded for adults.
