A tip from your CWPD arborist, if you see these hanging in your trees, remove them before the spring! This is a bagworm cocoon full of hundreds of eggs. If they... hatch, they can defoliate the tree, and nearby trees, and can cause significant damage. They prefer evergreens, but will attack almost any tree. Be on the lookout! See more

Dear Members: Your Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel the NPLA 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM). We had hoped to hold a (perhaps modified) AGM this fall, however the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic necessitates cancelling this year’s event in the interests of the health and safety of our members. In addition, the Bobcaygeon Lawn Bowling Club where we have traditionally held our meetings has decided to suspend all rentals for the balance of the year. Findi...ng another suitable venue would be difficult. We rejected the option of holding an on-line meeting given our experience with the current inadequate level of rural Internet service. We made the unanimous decision at our Board meeting on Friday. It was the first time we had met face-to-face (appropriately distanced, of course) in 2020. We’ve posted a photo of the Board at Bobcaygeon Beach Park on the Galleries Page of the NPLA Website. While there, you can also click on the links to review the slide shows from previous years’ AGMs and look forward to when we can all gather together again. Please continue to monitor your NPLA email. In the near future, we will be sending all members the President’s Report on Board Activities, the Treasurer’s Annual Report, and the 2019-2020 End of Year Financial Statement for your information and approval. The emergency order issued in March under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (Ontario) allows for the terms of incumbent directors to be extended where an annual meeting is deferred. In order to maintain continuity, all current directors have agreed to remain in office until such time as elections can be held during our next AGM. Best Regards, Warren Dunlop NPLA President On behalf of the NPLA Board of Directors

We are happy and sad to announce that today was our final day for the Holiday Greens program. Now to clean up, put everything away and wait for February. Thank ...you for your continued support. It was nice to get lots of positive feed back from many of you with regards to your spring plantings. We do take custom orders for spring, however it will depend on the plant material I have ordered. We also ask that you bring the containers you want planted, empty and clean! I am still selling gift certificates too. The holiday greens program will likely look a little different next year, and there is a possibility of fall plantings too. Stay informed by following us here. Thank you once again! Every gift you give to KLT helps protect and restore the nature you love. Right now, we urgently need your help to safeguard and steward part of the Fleetwo...od Creek watershed. The streams and creeks of the Fleetwood Creek watershed are one of the best opportunities in the Kawarthas to improve habitat quality of cold water streams for species like the Brook Trout. With your support today, KLT can continue to work with landowners to protect ecologically significant natural areas and improve land and water stewardship! You can make your gift to Kawartha Land Trust online at kawarthalandtrust.org before December 31st to receive your 2020 Charitable Tax Receipt. Click here to donate: https://bit.ly/2OfHse7 or call us at 705-743-5599 for more info.

Will you help protect nature in the Kawarthas? If you're like us here at KLT, you've probably enjoyed getting out into nature even more than usual this year! ...Now more than ever, the beautiful natural areas in the Kawartha are important sanctuaries as we continue to deal with the day to day realities of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is your generosity and support that helped us keep our trails open and lands maintained. From working with landowners to secure and steward donated properties to removing invasive species and maintaining and signposting trails, every gift you give helps protect and restore the nature you love. But we must act now. Development threats in the area are ongoing and nature needs protection before it’s too late. Visit https://bit.ly/2CKNq1l to donate online. Contact KLT at 705-743-5599 or [email protected] for more information.

WE DID IT! Thanks to your support and enthusiasm for this project, we've achieved our fundraising goal and have officially purchased the Christie Bentham Wetlan...d property! This photo was taken with a canoe donated to the Canadian Canoe Museum by Christie and Will Bentham. Thank you The Canadian Canoe Museum! The property will be officially named after Christie Bentham in recognition of the gift she left to KLT. By owning the property, KLT can now ensure that it can be enjoyed by future generations. Our sincere thanks to the supporters, donors and volunteers who have made conservation of this property possible. We look forward to celebrating with you all next year! We look forward to seeing you soon. The winter greenery program starts this Saturday Nov 21st until everything is gone. Please make an appointment as we are still following Covid protocol.

We are closing in on the purchase date of the Christie Bentham Wetland! We've officially passed our first milestone and have raised enough pledges to go forward... with the purchase of the property At this time we are asking everyone to fulfill their pledges if possible so that we have all of the funds collected in time for November 20th. We are still raising donations toward the immediate securement and stewardship needs of the property. We also need to raise donations for an investment in the stewardship endowment fund to ensure that KLT will be able to continue to care for the property in perpetuity. Donations toward this campaign can be made by mailing us a cheque, donating online by Credit Card, e-transfer to [email protected] or stock transfer.
