N+1 Cycle

I got curious about what we looked like the first year in business and took a look back. This series of photos were taken in 2014 according to Instagram. We had no idea what we were doing but it was our own and nobody was going to tell us what to do, we quickly we found out customers tell you what to do, but that's ok we have some pretty cool customers. The shop photos are at a small space located at 99.5 Stanley St. We spent the first year there and then moved into the space... beside @forestcitygallery, run by the lovely @jennafayepowell at the time. That space also included a second store front which we decided to start an artist run gallery/residence type of thing we named Good Sport @beagoodsport which quickly got away from us, it was bound to happen. Second and third jobs, our own art practice, our interest in framebuilding and family had to come before. We had good times and bad time but they were all valuable times and so much knowledge was gained about the act of cycling and about the bicycle itself. I didn't realize how much photo were posted of products back then and how much riding photos we post now. I guess subconsciously I felt showing people on bikes became more important to me. D. It's not easy to put yourself out there, and i guess in my case putting your friends out there . Time after time you question if what you are doing is effective and if anyone cares, Am I wasting my own time and everyone else's. But sometimes you receive a message that just makes your heart sing. A good pair of bib shorts goes a long way, if you plan on spending days in the saddle they can be your best friend and a worthy investment. @heathecares recently got a steller pair of @tenspeedhero pro bibs and i gotta say they are the best I've seen. We've struggled to find her a high-quality comfortable pair that is flattering on and off the bike. Last year we found a cycling trophy in the trash and we decided to add panniers to it and call it "The Golden Pannier" each year we will switch up reason to give it out. This year will be "Most Tourmanship". To me touring goes beyond just peddling to a destination and back. Getting together with your friends and spending large amounts of time with each other can be hard and add on top the struggles you face being exposed to the environment, traffic and navigation and making... the effort to stay together makes it even more difficult. Staying together maybe the most difficult and requires everyone's effort to do so. But riding together is the best and most beautiful part of bicycle touring. We ride together, experience the world together, laugh together and suffer together, and being together will in the end get us all there faster and safer. My friend @jaybmcmahon understands this and puts the effort into staying aware of where everyone is and will pace accordingly to keep the group together, he will even put in more effort to get to the front to slow the faster riders down. This is looking at the big picture and thinking for the group, not just himself. So this award for "Most tourmanship" goes to Jay McMahon. We may joke about being dirt bags, but when Jay is on his bike with his panniers he's pure class. So congrats Jay. D. #nplusonecycle #goldenpannier #bicycletouring

August is the month for Chimney Swifts in London. During their migration they stop and hangout by the Thames River to feed on insects and sleep in near by chimneys. This chimney belongs to Labatts and stood on Grey street and watched the Swifts eat their last meal before going into the chimney to sleep.

On route out of town last night. Getting away from the city's light pollution in search of shooting stars from the Perseid meteor shower . We were able to spot one or two meteors! Photo 1 (day1) We started in Barrie towards Shelburne. About 60% road, 30% gravel. ... Photo 2 (day2) Shelburne to Craigleigh. Great ride. About 50% road, 50% gravel. Photo 3 (day3) Craigleigh Park to Awenda Park. Mostly road. Day 4 rest day at Awenda Photo 4 (day5) Awenda to Barrie. Pretty much all rail trail.
